Chapter 8
"Reeve?" Reno and Cid recognized him. "Why are you in Kamino?" Cid asked.
"Investigating," Reeve replied.
Reno poked Reeve, "so you didn't die."
"I assure you am still very much alive," Reeve looked towards a shadowy corner, but tried not to look at it too much.
Cid glanced at the same corner and caught sight of a little movement. "Find anything interesting?"
"Yes, Hojo is controlling Rufus with the dark side of the Force and plans to build another empire," Reeve revealed, worry evident in his voice.
"The dark side..." Reno denied there was such a thing as the Force most of the time, though sometimes he used the possibility of its existence to his advantage. He shifted from not believing in it, to thinking that there was a remote possibility that it might be true, whatever best fit the situation. "So you think it's real."
"I thought you did too," reeve knew for a fact that Ramuh believe in the Force.
"I haven't decided. Either way, we just have to make sure Rufus doesn't get killed; Tseng and Elena made it into Coruscant before the lockdown so it should be fine." Reno simplified the situation as much as possible but Reeve only shook his head while Rude stood silent and Vincent watched.
"It's not simply about Rufus; there are hostages, threats, illegal deals and a rebellion by the new trade federation about to blow in Coruscant. Hojo didn't care about keeping us out; the lockdown was to keep the Jedi out," Reeve explained. "Zack, its fine, come out."
The man hiding in the shadows came out, his eyes had an usual glow, a sign of the high amount of midiclorians he had. "Zack Fair, last of the Jedi," he introduced himself.
"Reno of the Turks," Reno spoke as if it were all just a social meeting.
"Cid Highwind, and why are we standing here introducing ourselves in we should be in a hurry?"
"Rude..." the quiet man remained calm.
Vincent shook his head, and acknowledged Cid's point of said his name anyway, "Vincent Valentine."
"The missing heir key to the original plan..." Zack seemed to know about what Hojo was planning but the way he called it the original plan made it sound as if there was more, as if it had changed.
"We should leave," Reeve reminded them, and once again the group boarded the Millennium Falcon.
"Where are we headed next?" Cid asked.
"Tatooine," Zack requested, "we need reinforcements, Jedi reinforcements."
Cid paused and looked at Reeve, "just go along with this, Zack is right. This is something bigger than we imagined."
"Shouldn't we rush to Coruscant yet?" Reno asked.
"It's too later; we'll need more help to rescue her..." Zack looked frustrated, as if he really did want to rush to Coruscant but knew he shouldn't.
"Rescue her?" Reno echoed, "her who? I thought we wee saving Rufus, you know the guy who pays us."
"The Force," Zack tried to explain, "she's the force itself!"
"Aren't midiclorians the Force?" Reno had heard a lot about it from Ramuh, and actually listened to a little.
"Yes, but there is another," Zack revealed. "Midiclorians are the Force, she came from them. Unlike Anakin Skywalker who was a human born by the Force, she was born by the force entirely. She has no parents; she was created by the power of the Force alone. Aeris, she is the light side, but not the first. Long ago The Force, light and dark created two beings, Ilfana of the light and Jenova of the darkness. Those two beings fought and killed each other in their battle. While they lived they hunted each other. Jenova killed Jedi and Ilfana tried to save the Sith from the dark side. They found each other and fought, and it all ended in balance."
They all listened quietly to what Zack had to say. To Cid it was another crazy. Reno yawned and leaned back in his chair eyes closed. This was like the stories grandpa Ramuh used to tell him when he was a little hyper child to get him to stay still long enough to fall asleep.
"All midiclorians are by nature pure, but they are corrupted by host. Light midiclorians encourage the host subconsciously to pursue good, but if the host manages to corrupt the midiclorians they will follow the host's dark will and in a way encourage it with the temptation of more power. It will come to the point were the midiclorians will be come ill by the poisonous dark will of the host. Midiclorians seek harmony, and that can be defined as balance. The light and dark midiclorians will seek to cancel each other out for as long as light and darkness exist. Due to the nature of all living things, it is impossible for the midiclorians to be completely free of dark wills, there's always someone out there, whether they know it or not, with the dark force within," Zack explained.
Vincent paid attention, he knew more about that story than he was letting on, and Rude noticed it but as usual said nothing. It wouldn't matter if was about to be revealed to all of them anyway. Reeve continued listening to the story that he had already heard before.
Zack continued, "As long as dark midiclorians exist they will seek to destroy the light, and the light will seek to heal the dark, and bring back balance. Balance should be light, but it cannot be achieve due to the nature of the hosts. So the new balance becomes nothingness and because of that, as long as midiclorians exist there will be Jedi and Sith and there will be a war between them, seeking to destroy each other. After Ilfana and Jenova destroyed each other long ago, Ilfana was dissolved into the atmosphere empowering all the possible Jedi left behind and Jenova simply died."
"The midiclorians then left the establishment of balance in the hands of the beings that hosted them. Anakin Skywalker in a way fulfilled the prophecy which was misread. The balance of just light and harmony could not be achieved so it's opposite, complete destruction was tried. He finished the Jedi council and brought the empire to Palpatine. At the same time he brought balance with his son Anakin Skywalker years ago. Now it's happening again, the balance of emptiness is being called. The battle of ancients. Some even go as far as to say that Ilfana were not made by the midiclorians but they were the original forms of the midiclorians, two being in an eternal battle, the spirits of the Jedi and Sith."
"Aeris, the new being of light has come as a result of Jenova's return. Jenova is not completely revived but she empowers Darth Meteor, the only know as Sephiroth and his clones, Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo, made secretly in Kamino where I arrived too late. It's going to happen again, Hojo is planning to revive Jenova, the light foresaw this and brought Aeris. Hojo is using Aeris power corrupting it with power extracted from Jenova's body to control everything. When the lockdown is lifted it would be too late, but even so we can't face them now. We have to find more allies, then stop Jenova's full revival. If Jenova is destroyed than the effects of the brain washing will be nullified." Zack waited to see their reaction.
Silence invaded the Millennium Falcon for a few moments until Vincent spoke. "Hojo must not be allowed to revive Jenova." It was the experiment for which he sacrificed Lucrecia's life and it failed. An experiment that came at such a high price should not be allowed to be repeated and no more lived should be taken. "I will go."
"If Hojo takes over that's not good for any of us," Cid commented.
"Yeah, he's been wanting to fire us or brainwash us. The hutts are gone so that business is done, what would I do all the time if there's a new empire?" Reno wasn't really interested in playing hero, but if it was beneficial to all of them he saw no reason they couldn't work together.
"I know someone who could become a Jedi, Cloud Strife from Tatooine. The two of us will prepare to face Hojo. Jenova's revival takes time but we need all the time we can get to prepare so we still need to hurry," Zack explained. He has already spoken to Reeve about the situation and took Rude's silence as acceptance of the plan and willingness to go along with it like all the others.
Zack and Cloud began their training, while the others devised a plan to get Rufus away from Hojo. What would be their surprise when an escape pod crashed on Tatooine with none other than Rufus, Tseng and Elena aboard.
"Hojo let us escape; he doesn't think we're a threat," Tseng later said.
"Then we'll have to prove him wrong," Zack was determined.
But on that fateful battle, it was the unexpected betrayal of Sephiroth that finished Hojo. Sephiroth sleeked to revive Jenova by himself, and Hojo was but a pawn. He was joined by his clones, Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz. "The dark side will never be a memory..." was the last thing Sephiroth said before escaping into space with his clones and Jenova. Aeris was taken back, but she would not be saved while Jenova was still being revived.
"Shall we pursue Sephiroth then?" Tseng asked when Rufus and the Turks reunited at Tatooine.
"No, we have the empire to worry about. Leave Sephiroth to the Jedi, we will keep control of the newly formed empire," Rufus decided. The senate was not restored and in desperation the star systems followed the new emperor and former chancellor without question while the Jedi were after the Sith Master Sephiroth.
A new era began. Reno remained in Coruscant after the planet was released from what was left of Hojo's forces and Rufus took control of the galaxy. Reno had heard that the Jedi and their allies, including Vincent and Reeve who had decided to go with them, had followed Sephiroth to the most remote corners of distant galaxies and won the battle, but he had not been there to see it.
Cid who also remained in Coruscant always wondered if it was true and if either the Sith or the Jedi would one day return to the galaxy. Tseng, Elena and Rude also stayed in Coruscant.
The galaxy was relatively quiet and the new empire functioned relatively well. Later Reno heard from Ramuh that the Jedi and their allies, and the Sith had been thrown into a black hole, product of their battle. It somehow threw them out into a very distant galaxy, making it impossible to return in less than a year at the least. "How do you know that?"
"The Force," Ramuh replied, very certain that it was true.
"Right, you're just guessing." Reno would view it as a theory and nothing more, after all, there was no proof. "They probably just destroyed each other or something..."
But the battle of the Jedi and the Sith would never truly end and the sides of darkness and light would eventually return in the most unexpected ways...
