Chapter 7
"Coruscant is in a lockdown, Elena and Tseng made it in," Rude summarized the situation.
"The Coruscant lockdown doesn't make sense; I've heard too many different versions on the radio while working on the Millennium Falcon. Everything from meteor shower to suspected rebel attack," Cid had a bad feeling about it, it just screamed to be an excuse to get people's attention.
"I agree," Ramuh voiced, "they want a big drama, everyone's attention must stay on Coruscant. Perhaps the answer lies on Kamino."
"Alright then, Cid, you can take care of Vincent, Rude and I will head to Kamino on the Millennium Falcon," Reno ran off, with Cid chasing him.
"I'm not a babysitter, and you're not taking my baby!" No one piloted his precious Millennium Falcon except him, and Reno had been wanting to take it for a spin for a long time, when even he was reminded that his favorite comic book hero had no many adventures in it.
The red head's opinion towards the old ship sifted from thinking it was a miracle it still worked to being fascinated by it, to trying to steal it, to getting distracted by something else. When he would be in the mood to take the Millennium Falcon was impossible to predict, so Cid had to be on his guard.
Rude silently followed the two other men towards the Millennium Falcon, leaving a confused Vincent standing there with Ramuh and the cadet clones. "Go with them," Ramuh finally spoke, "it's not good for someone so young to sleep all the time. There are a lot of things going on and you might find it interesting."
"I doubt it..." but Vincent followed them anyway, and the four of them headed off to Kamino in the Millennium Falcon.
All the way to Kamino, Rude was very quiet as usual, Vincent looked annoying and Reno talked about everything he had heard about Kamino, including how it was rumored that the prime minister liked a twilek who lived in Tatooine. "Who do you like Rude?"
Rude was quiet for several minutes, while Reno stared at him with sad kitten eyes that seemed to pressure Rude into revealing the secret, or Reno would feel that he wasn't trusted. "Tifa..."
"Really? What about Elena?" Reno asked.
"She likes Tseng," Rude clarified.
"I never knew that..." Reno grinned mischievously, "you know what I think? I think that guy from the Seventh Heaven likes you. The last time we were there he kept staring at you. I think he came close to asking me about you but he chickened out."
"Strife only thought we were suspicious," Rude tried to reason with Reno.
"Aren't we?" Reno asked.
Cid chose that moment to join the conversation, "a lot of things are suspicious lately."
"Suspicious like Shinra or suspicious like you and Shera?" Reno asked, now turning Cid into his target for entertainment.
"I don't know what you're talking about," but Cid really did know.
"I heard you let her modify the Millennium Falcon," Reno voiced, "you don't let anyone else touch it so you must really trust her..."
Cid tried to change the subject, "what's your story?" He asked Vincent. Hopefully Reno would start annoying the new guy instead.
"I wish to return to my sleep..." Vincent simply said.
"I don't know why you want that, but you need to stay awake. You're Grimore's kid aren't you?" Reno didn't really believe the Force existed, it might have but it didn't anymore. His grandfather kept saying it still existed but Reno was not easily convinced. He did lie about the senate being protected by the dark side when he thought it was beneficial, little did he know that the senate was being controlled by the dark side.
"How much do you think you know about me?" Vincent was getting annoyed.
"That's the point, not enough," Reno glanced at the data on the screen; it would still be a while before they arrived on Kamino. "You've been sleeping for too long. The current supreme chancellor is Rufus Shinra, but he's being controlled by Hojo, a wannabe Sith. People think that the senate is under the protection of the dark side, but that's just a rumor, the force doesn't exist," Reno made a small pause then added, "anymore..."
"I am under the impression that I am needed for some reason?" Vincent was also annoyed that he was. He did not wish to get involved in whatever was going on.
"You're in charge of the Hidden City, known now as Hidden Mansion. You're the rightful heir and can join the senate. We were going to ask you to help us form a new empire for chancellor Rufus, but Hojo's getting in the way and he's planning something so we're going to check that out instead," Reno explained.
"Basically, you're saying we have little to no idea what's going on, which isn't far from the truth," Cid added.
"I have no interest in joining the senate," Vincent replied. Reno was about to say something but Vincent continued. "But, if Hojo is planning something, then I will assist in stopping him..."
The rest of the trip went by with mostly Reno talking, explaining things, updating Vincent on what was currently going on in the galaxy and trying to get information out of him. Some of the things he asked him about where useful, but Vincent refused to speak. Other questions were just nosy, such as "who do you like?" Vincent became even quieter and more annoyed after that and Reno knew it was best to drop the subject.
"We'll be arriving in Kamino soon," Cid announced. The planet's landscape was known for its lack of land. The Kaminoans settled into cities built in platforms above their massive ocean. This time there was no storm, the ocean was calm and wave-less like smooth glass. But the calm and silent atmosphere brought a feeling of foreboding. Cid landed the Millennium Falcon on a near by platform, close to the main government building, a bridge extending from the landing platform towards the building.
A man was standing outside the building as if he had been waiting all along, but he was not a Kaminoan...
