Chapter 5

The Turks made their way deep into the basement of Mustafar coming across several secured doors that Tseng opened. The dark rooms deep within the Mustafar basements were unbearably hot. A growl was heard a red creature stepped out of the shadows, its tail was on fire but it didn't appear bothered by it. "I was told you would come," the creature spoke.

"It talks..." Reno felt the need to point out the obvious because the obvious was a surprise. He had even drawn his light saber though he only ended up using it as a source of light since the red wolf-like being was on their side. He knew stranger aliens could talk, but he only expected this one to try to eat them.

"My name is Nanaki, I was sent here by Darth Hojo," Nanaki scratched at the electronic collar around his neck.

Tseng's expression changed slightly with just the smallest hint of being displeased that was there only for a split second. But that was enough, Reno got the message when Tseng nodded, and so did Nanaki because he stayed perfectly still while Reno used his light saber to cut the collar off.

The Turks didn't even have to ask for Nanaki to understand what they wanted to know. "Darth Hojo is currently in control of Chancellor Rufus mind brainwashing him with the force. That collar suppresses midiclorians, which I have. To pretend to be brainwashed completely was the only way I could get away. Finding Valentine was my mission, you two were send to track his location to get you away from Coruscant. The planet is scheduled to be sealed in a force field and you would have been left out. I do not wish to work for Hojo but I am not an ally of Rufus Shinra either."

"I understand," Tseng spoke. "In that case you're free. We won't tell anyone about seeing you here. But if finding Valentine was your mission then, he must be here."

"Yes, the son of Grimore, Vincent Valentine, he sleeps here frozen in carbonate," Nanaki replied. "I will be on my way now, I thank you for removing that, only a genuine light saber could have cut it, not the replicas they make now. Although, I don't sense either of you are Jedi."

"We are Turks," Tseng voiced.

"Yeah," Reno echoed, "I got this in one of my trading jobs with the hutts. It used to belong to some Jedi chick Aayla Secura years ago."

"I see, I thank you all the same, I must leave now," Nanaki left, and Reno glanced at Tseng whose expression seemed to tell Reno it was alright to let Nanaki go.

"I will return to Coruscant right away. I'm sure they didn't expect us to find Valentine this quickly. I will call Elena and Rude and have them join me in Coruscant, but we can't reveal what we heard here yet," Tseng and Reno walked deeper into the basement as Tseng spoke.

They found a coffin, just as the rumors said, and opened it. Reno poked at the silvery block inside it, the man's expression frozen. "He looks like he was upset," it should come as no surprise; anyone about to be frozen against their will would be upset. "Should I go to Coruscant too?"

"No, you need to finish the mission concerning Valentine. Take him to the secret base at the Alderaan asteroid field as planned. I will inform Rufus that we regrouped as soon as we had Valentine and I thought it would not be needed for all of us to be there," Tseng decided.

"But shouldn't I..." Reno couldn't care less about his senator disguise but he had a certain pride in being a Turk and was the second in command after Tseng.

"You need to stay outside; we can't all be in Coruscant if we can't get Rufus out before the planet goes into lockdown. It all makes sense, I'm sure Nanaki was telling the truth about that, he only confirmed my suspicions." Tseng didn't like how things were going and how far they got before he started to realized it.

"Right, got it," Reno would continue with his mission to gain Vincent Valentine's vote or terminate his life. But if Rufus was being completely controlled by Darth Hojo, then having a real representative from a star system, who legitimately belonged in the galactic senate, opposing him might not be such a bad thing after all. It was a gamble, and Reno had a feeling that this frozen man would become an important part of it.

"Take your time negotiating with him," Tseng gave the frozen man one last glance before leaving.

Reno knew that meant that he should keep himself and Vincent away from Coruscant until further notice. Looking at the coffin Reno and realized how far behind he had been. Tseng knew they were looking, not only for a man frozen in carbonate, but one inside a coffin, someone must have spread the rumor, Nanaki had been guiding them all along to free himself, and possibly in hopes of having them stand against Hojo. The division went three ways, the Sith, Shinra, and everyone else.

"Great," Reno spoke to Vincent, even if he knew the other man could not hear in his frozen state. "Now I'm going to have to drag your coffin all the way out of this dungeon." Well he wasn't doing it by himself. Reno called Cid on his hologram communicator, "I found Valentine, and Tseng, something's up I'll tell you on the way. I need some droids down here, strong droids..."

The little blue-ish hologram of the pilot replied. "I'll send in some droid," and with an amused laugh he added, "you look like you're being cooked alive."

"I am, so make it quick," Reno shut off the communication device and hoped he wouldn't pass out from the extreme heat before the droids arrived to carry Vincent out.
