Never Forget

Chapter 2

"You haven't changed much yourself," Timmy should have been annoyed by Vicky's comment, but somehow he wasn't. He was in a way glad to see her again, if only out of sheer curiosity. But for many reasons he wished their cause to meet was different, he didn't want to drag her into such difficulties. A dangerous anti-fairy criminal was on the loose and Vicky had nothing to do with it.

Timmy was worried for many reasons. The anti-fairy had strange black magic of unknown origins, magic that could even hurt Vicky. She might be safe for now since it was obvious the anti-fairy wanted her to somehow serve as an obstacle for Timmy's mission of capturing him. Detaining her in Fairy World was a bad idea and Jorgen knew that right away.

But regardless of all the thoughts Timmy had summing in his head, one surfaced and refused to sink in. When he said Vicky had not changed he was lying. She only looked slightly different, more grown up, more beautiful than he would admit. Most of all she felt different, her presence was still strong, aggressive and intimidating, maybe more intimidating than in the past; yet somehow, it didn't bother him as much.

"Twerp! You're still spacing out as usual," by the time Timmy woke from his thoughts Vicky's car was in motion, speeding down the Dimmsdale roads as she regained direction. The car came to a halt in front of a hotel and Vicky got out. "Well?"

Timmy got out of the car as well and followed Vicky to the lobby. He glanced briefly at a two pink and green flowers on a large decorative potted plant, but tried not to stare. The bellhop returned to Vicky's car to retrieve her luggage. She was there on business, not for a visit. She had no intentions of seeing her parents or sister, or Timmy Turner, though she already had.

"Why are you following me?" Vicky finally asked. She had ignored Timmy during the car ride and did not kick him out of the speeding car as she was tempted to do.

"I'm not..." It was obvious he was. Timmy had to find out how much Vicky knew and keep an eye on her.

Without even acknowledging him as anything more than a mere obstruction to her view, Vicky pushed Timmy aside. "Why?" She repeated, addressing the potted plant where the pink and green flowers sat.

"Vicky," Timmy didn't think Vicky would know this much about fairy would. She witnessed a supernatural occurrence, she might or might not investigate, the spell that allowed her to become immune to having her memories erased may or may not have second effects; but Vicky should not be able to identify Cosmo and Wanda so easily.

"Come out," the pink and green flowers looked nervous, but it was a sign that could only be noted if one was searching for it.

A short thin man with a camera stepped out from behind the potted plant. "Liberty of press," he simply said, and he looked as if he was ready to endure anything for the sake of exercising that right.

Vicky raised an eyebrow but soon caught on, long before Timmy, Cosmo or Wanda did. Timmy and his fairies were relieved that Vicky was speaking to that man and not to Cosmo and Wanda, but they did not realize who the man was until a few moments later when Vicky scoffed and spared Timmy a quick glance. "Him?"

The man with the camera nodded and the reality of the situation sunk in. He was a paparazzi. "Miss Victoria is quite famous in the business world..." The paparazzi gave Timmy and disapproving look.

Timmy put two and two together and tried to deny it. That man had assumed they were together at a hotel for other reasons. "That's not..."

Vicky interrupted, "how scandalous," her glare was challenging and threatening. She would not be manipulated by the press and she would make that clear.

A bad reputation was not something she feared, it was something she already had. She had never been accused of sleeping around, but blackmail, threats, aggressiveness and bending the law until it -almost- snaps, were things she was well known for. She didn't get fired because she was good at takeovers and Doug didn't know how to get rid of her without losing more than just his reputation to a series of photos. Vicky was a much better paparazzi than that guy when she needed to be.

Before Timmy or the man with the camera could say another word, Vicky grabbed Timmy's shoulders and pulled him into a kiss. The paparazzi stood shocked until they parted, a similar shocked expression plastered on Timmy's face. "What's wrong?" She mocked the paparazzi. "Did you forget to snap that picture when you had the chance? Too bad."

Vicky tilted her head towards the elevator and the bellhop who had returned with her luggage and waited for her while witnessing the show, headed towards said elevator. Vicky pulled Timmy along and left the paparazzi open mouthed and too shocked to take another picture.

The elevator ride felt like an eternity to Timmy, while the truth of what happened finally caught up with him. Vicky on the other hand, was cool calm and collected as if nothing at all had happened. The bellhop looked tense but full of anticipation, perhaps hoping for a scandal to make his job less boring.

They arrived at Vicky's room. The bellhop brought in her luggage and to Timmy's surprise Vicky actually gave him a generous tip. "Do not keep this a secret."

The bellhop looked confused, "you mean I should keep it a secret?"

"I mean it like I said it. I couldn't care less about secrecy; I do what I want, where I want, how I want. If anyone asks make it clear that I am not trying to hide despite any implications." Tip or no tip, Vicky's deadly glare was enough to convince the bellhop to follow her orders.

The bellhop mumbled a "thanks" and hurried out of the room, leaving Timmy and Vicky alone.

"Um... Vicky..." Timmy wasn't sure what to say, he wasn't sure what to think.

"Wait a few hours then leave. You can watch TV or something, just don't bother me," Vicky retrieved a laptop from her luggage and a minute later she was absorbed in the flow of the stock market.

Timmy calmed down a little and wondered why in the world he had started to jump to conclusions on the first place. "They're going to think we're... you know."

"If they know I don't care about blackmail then they'll stop trying." Vicky's explanation was simply but effective.

"I get it, if it doesn't work they'll leave you alone," Timmy understood.

"Yes, and I honestly don't care what they think of me anyway," with as much power as Vicky had gained, she had found other means to persuade and manipulate those around her and there was no need to keep up a good image anymore.
