Chapter 5
It was a busy morning with workers buzzing all over the castle, for tomorrow the Maoh would wed, and there was still a lot to do. Yuri woke up to the noise that had invaded every corner of the castle, passing through the closed doors and windows as if they were wide open. The walls of his room provided little protection against the loud sounds of decorations being put up, instructions being shouted, people running around, the orchestra rehearsing, and Gunter worrying about every little detail.
The boy in Yuri's arms squirmed, head resting against the Maoh's chest. Wolfram half opened his eyes, glaring at nothing in particular. "Why must they be so noisy?"
"It's all part of the process, I guess," Yuri knew they would not be getting any extra sleep that day so they might as well get up. Even if the wedding was well planned and even postponed, as it often happens, things were left for the last minute and Yuri could not imagine how in the world they would have everything done for tomorrow morning. One thing was for sure, today would be a busy day for both the bride and groom, whoever was whichever.
"They're not going to leave us alone during the entire day," Wolfram cuddled Yuri, causing the dark haired boy to blush. "And tomorrow we'll have to get up very early." Both Wolfram and Yuri would prefer to have the wedding a little later in the afternoon or evening, but it was part of the tradition for the Maoh to be married at sunrise with the start of a new day symbolizing the start of a new stage in the Maoh's life.
"Then after the wedding we'll have to formerly tend to the guests until mid day. We'll have a banquet, then there are other formal festivities in the afternoon," Conrad had already given Yuri the basic rundown, and he made it clear both he and Wolfram would be busy the entire day.
"We'll have to open gifts from all over the country the entire afternoon, until the late evening when the second banquet is served. Then there will be more celebrations, a concert and a ball that lasts until the fireworks display at midnight," Wolfram continued.
"After that, the formalities will be over and an informal party will last until sunrise. Finally we'll leave towards a secret location with the raising sun," Yuri did not use the words honey moon, but that was exactly what it was.
Wolfram clung to Yuri, he was happy to finally marry him but the formal festivities were a lot of work. By the time they were on their way to their honey moon they would be so exhausted they would just want to sleep the entire day. "Where are we going?"
"I don't know, I asked Conrad to choose a place were we could be alone... a place were no one would bother us..." Yuri caressed Wolfram's golden hair. He was taking a big step in his life but despite all the insecurities he had in the past, it all finally felt right. They both wondered what kind of place Conrad had chosen...
"Your majesty!" Gunter knocked on the door.
Yuri was about to answer but Wolfram covered his mouth. "Shh, pretend we're asleep."
Yuri removed Wolfram's hand from his mouth. "No one can sleep with all this noise!" Yuri sat up on the bed. Wolfram hugged Yuri and gently nibbled on his neck. Yuri gasped in surprised at the sudden display of affection, but enjoyed it. He tilted his head to the side allowing Wolfram more space.
"Your majesty!" Gunter called once more. "Please wake up, your majesty!" He knocked on the door loudly, trying to be heard over all the noise.
But Yuri was enjoying Wolfram's attention too much to get up right away. He heard the door knob being twisted and the knocking becoming harder and more insistent. Yuri didn't want Gunter to worry, but he didn't want to get up to face a busy day that would leave him exhausted and craving for much needed sleep; only to face an even busier day the following morning and not get any sleep for twenty-four hours. That meant no energy to enjoy Wolfram's company, and they had become so close after their feelings were admitted...
"Your majesty!" Gunter's tone grew desperate and Yuri felt guilty for not answering.
"I'm asleep!" Yuri finally replied, a pleasurable sigh escaping along with the answer. Yuri's obvious lie caused Wolfram to laugh unexpectedly, biting into Yuri's neck. "Wolfram!"
The door shook violently as if someone was trying to tare it down, Wolfram and Yuri looked towards it as the tremors continued. "Can't you wait Gunter?" Wolfram yelled.
"It's time for the bride and groom to try on their clothes for tomorrow!" A voice that was definitely not Gunter's voice, called from the door.
"Mother?" Wolfram blushed, it's not like his mother saw what he was doing, but she probably guessed what the delay could be about. She also brought a certain mystery to light, one that Wolfram felt compelled to ask about right away. He gained a serious look and stared at Yuri who was caught by surprise with Wolfram's sudden change of expression. "Who is the bride and who is the groom?"
Yuri had not thought much about it. He had assumed they would both be grooms, and since such a union was not uncommon in that world, then it was fine if they were both grooms. "Aren't we both grooms?"
"Don't be ridiculous Yuri, there has to be a bride and a groom." Needless to say Yuri was taken by surprise with Wolfram's explanation, and his tone as if it was all common knowledge.
Yuri learned something new everyday, and that day he learned that even if their couple situation was not rare, when it came to weddings there had to be a bride and a groom. It was ironic that their society would hold on to the custom of having both a bride and a groom even if they accepted all kinds of gender combinations when it came to couples.
Cecile finally managed to knock down the door. It was a big mistake to underestimate her. She strolled into the room with the intention of dragging the bride off to try on his dress. She would prefer if the bride was Wolfram because he looked so much like her, but if the bride turned out to be Yuri, then she would help him with the dress just as happily.
Cecile smiled at the image of her youngest son and his fiancé playing what she thought was a cute lover's game, which was in fact, Wolfram strangling Yuri while repeating over and over that he did not want to wear a dress.
