Chapter Two
Wolfram and Yuri did not speak to each other all day, instead Wolfram avoided Yuri. When night fell, Yuri found Wolfram in Greta's room reading her a story while the little girl they had adopted listened from her bed surrounded by a multitude of stuffed animals, most made by Gwendal.
Yuri quietly entered the room, and sat by Wolfram who paused for only a moment before continuing his reading. After the story was done Greta was already fast asleep, and her two adoptive fathers quietly left the room.
Yuri walked towards his room without saying a word. Wolfram walked next to him, stopping in his own room. Yuri paused for a moment but continued walking. His changed into his pajamas and got into bed. Though he wasn't expecting it, Wolfram soon joined him after having changed as well.
The two lay there quietly in the dark room, until Yuri finally spoke. "Do you hate me?"
"What makes you say that?" Wolfram had been upset but he didn't think Yuri would assume he was hated.
"Because of my mistake we ended up being engaged and now you feel that you must accept it. Don't you want to fall in love someday Wolfram?" Yuri was still oblivious to the fact that he was the one Wolfram had fallen in love with.
"I hate you Yuri," Wolfram turned away, facing a wall and closed his eyes. No matter how much Yuri tried to reason with him, the conversation was over for the night.

The next morning came, and the days continued to pass. Yuri was advised to choose a date for wedding, a task which he delegated to whoever wished to take it and Cecile was all too happy to fulfill it.
Yuri didn't know what to expect after the wedding was done. He tried to calm himself by thinking that nothing would change. But in the back of his mind he couldn't help it but to grieve the loss of the opportunity to allow Wolfram to marry someone else, someone he chose y his own free will, not someone who accidentally proposed to him. He soaked in the warm waters of the bath, trying to clear his head and nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt the water move.
"You don't have to look so scared, wimp," Yuri stared at Wolfram, surprised to see him there, until Wolfram started to feel uncomfortable with the persistent gaze. "Don't stare at me."
Yuri quickly looked away; he had been so surprised that he did not realize he was staring. "Sorry, you just surprised me."
"Mother set the date," Wolfram did not need to specify what date he meant, as it was what everyone was talking about lately.
Yuri nearly winced, but he tried to communicate his earlier thoughts about how things would stay the same, yet he didn't know how to phrase it. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing?" Wolfram didn't like seeing Yuri so stressed, it simply wasn't like him. Did the wedding truly torture him that much?
"For making you hate me." Yuri didn't blame Wolfram; he was the one who trapped him in an accidental engagement which Wolfram had been bearing for so long, even trying to make the best of it.
"I don't hate you, I was just angry because you're so dense," Wolfram's explanation made Yuri look at him curiously.
The Maoh wondered what exactly he was missing, maybe a way out of this that he had not taken into consideration. "I'm completely missing something, right?"
Wolfram nodded, "right."
"And you're not going to tell me until I figure it out on my own?" Yuri asked, fearing a positive response.
"Right," Wolfram confirmed it.
Yuri sighted, "can't you just tell me?"
"I can't," Wolfram's reply sounded final.
They remained in the bath in silence, the large pool steaming with warmth. Yuri finally spoke once more. "Wolfram..." he wasn't sure what exactly he wanted to say but, whatever it was, it slipped away from his mind when he realized that maybe it was his stress that was upsetting Wolfram more so than the coming wedding.
"What is it, Yuri?" Wolfram asked, hearing the other boy trail off into silence.
To Wolfram's surprise Yuri then smiled. He was worrying too much and it truly wasn't like him, and it was upsetting Wolfram, and Gunter and who knows who else. Yuri decided he was being silly, nothing would change, the marriage would be the same as his engagement; he already shared a room and a bed with Wolfram more often than not as it was. Yuri had decided to do anything he could for his country, the country that was given to him to rule and protect, and if that meant marrying another boy who seemed all too eager to respect the eccentric traditions of the land, then Yuri would do it. "I'm not going to be stressed about the wedding anymore." Yuri felt as if when he thought he understood he had instead misunderstood. If Wolfram was happy enough being the Maoh's husband, or wife, or something along those lines, for the sake of his country, since Yuri still did not understand that it was much more than that; then maybe there was no reason to feel guilty about the accidental engagement and upcoming marriage.
"That's... good." Wolfram wasn't sure how to react; Yuri's tone could be misleading sometimes, though he did not do it on purpose.
"Right it'll be as if nothing has changed at all. Everything will be the same... forever," Yuri was trying to sound cheerful and optimistic, he was honestly trying.
Wolfram was once again displeased with the direction that Yuri was taking the conversation on. "The same as always, forever," the blond repeated bitterly.
Yuri felt the tension grow, he searched for the answer that he kept missing, the point that floated in front of his nose but he somehow failed to notice, the thing that Wolfram refused to say. Yuri did not find it, so instead he sincerely said, "It's not that I don't want things to change, to improve, for both of us."
Yuri's statement was so vague that Wolfram could take it in quite the number of ways, but he refused to take it in the way he wished for it to be meant, he did not want to get his hopes up. "Then stop being a wimp."
"What does that mean?" Yuri was at the end of his rope trying to figure out what went on in Wolfram's head; the other boy had always been a mystery to him.
"It means exactly what I said," Wolfram made it sound as if it were the most obvious thing, yet at the same time there was the undertone of knowing that Yuri had no idea what it meant.
