I was awoken the next morning by the sound of Gerard's alarm clock. It just kept ringing and I had no idea how to shut the damned thing off. Luckily it stopped after I whacked it a few times. I noticed that Gerard was no where to be seen. Shit. I better go home and change. School was in two hours and I was wearing the same clothes as yesterday. It's not that anyone would notice though... I mean, we had uniforms.

Standing up beside the bed, I stretched my arms and yawned. Then the handle of the door turned and there stood Gerard.

"Hey Frank. You sleep well last night?" He just smiled and kept looking at me. He was probably waiting for a response.
"Of course I did," I teased him, "I slept well cause I was with you! But seriously... I should get home and change... school is in like a couple hours."
"Oh yeah... we do have school today don't we?" he laughed, "I'll come with you, just uh, wait a second."

Gerard got dressed and then put on his black jacket, then we headed to my house a few blocks up the street.

We arrived at my house and I just pushed on the door and it swung open. Usually my mom never locked the doors even though the area we lived in was so rough.

"My room is the last one down the hall. Just follow me."

Gerard nodded and followed. I was trying my best to avoid the living room becuase my mom was passed out on the couch again. We got into my room and I shut the door and locked it behind me. Gerard just sat on my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

"Do you uhhh... wanna step out for a second Gee?" I asked him, "Cause I'm kinda like, gonna change my clothes..."
"Just ignore me and pretend I'm not even here."

That was easier said than done. I felt Gerard's eyes on me as I took off my shirt. I didn't at all mind him being there but I guess it was kinda awkward... even for me.

"Come here..." he called out to me as he stood up.

I did as he said and then he caught me in his arms. He let out a quiet giggle.

"What? I asked, "Are you laughing at me?"
"Hah. No, I'm not. It's just that.." he laughed again, "You smell like me."
"Is that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing?"
"I don't know... should it be? I mean I always smell like this..." he said looking into my eyes.

Gerard then put his hands on the back of my head, his fingers running through my hair, kissing me gently. His hands were so warm against my cold skin. I guess it's like he was hugging a popcicle. I took a deep breath, then let out a long sigh.

"What wrong baby?" he held me as if I were a child.
"Oh nothing... I guess. I'm just. Cold."

He handed me my collared uniform shirt and I put it on. I was fixing my tie but Gerard kept pulling it so that it hung loosely around my neck. He claimed it look more like me. I put on my black sweater, which regrettably did smell somewhat like Gerard, and headed out the door.

"Was that your mom on the couch?" Gerard asked me as we walked.
"Yeah, she is... I was just hoping you wouldn't noice. It's kind of embarassing."
"Is she okay?"
"Probably.." I lied because I knew that she had passed out from all the booze.
"Usually my dad is like that." he said, "My mom kicked him out of the house just recently. He was beatig up Mikey and she just couldn't take anymore of it."

I tried my best to sympathize with Gerard. I told him that sometimes my mom would come home with a drunk guy she picked up from the street or the bar. I tried not to hang around when that happened because he would always beat me with a belt or throw things at me. I hated my mom so much for that but she was all I had. I didn't want to call my dad. He had a life of his own too, raising my two beautiful sisters and I knew exactly why he left my mom. I was crying almost the whole way to school. Gerard helped me wipe away the tears and he and I held hands all the way. We knew we had to let go as soon as we reached the school. It was one of those things that could get a kid beat up really bad. Emotionally and physically. I knew that becuase I had done it before.

Before we parted, I asked him, "You wanna come to my house tonight? You can just climb thorugh the window. I already cut a hole in the screen a while ago..."
"Sure.. I mean why not."
He quickly kissed my neck then said, "See ya later Frankie. I love you."
