On The Front Steps

It was a Wednesday. Band practise was cancelled today due to unknown reasons so Gerard invited Ray Toro and me to come to his house after school to meet Mikey and just practise together.
The day just dragged on and on. It felt like those classes would never end and every minute seemed like an hour. Gerard wasn't in any of my classes and my "friends" kept bugging me to beat someone. I guess they weren't as stupid as I thought because even they noticed that I was acting differently. I mean, I hadn't picked on anyone since I started band... which was over a week ago. Maybe this as because I had an alternative to anger now. What ever the reason, they noticed and so did I.
"Hey Frank..." Shane asked me during english.
"What..?"
"What's wrong with you man? You seem... i dunno... different."
In all reality, things were different and I was too. I just didn't want to say anything to them because I knew they would call me a faggot for liking Gerard.
"What are you talking about? I'm fine okay." I whispered back.
"Well... okay... fine. But like do us a favor and help us beat on someone today. Things have been so different without you."
I nodded but reluctantly. For some reason, I knew they would get Gerard. I just had the feeling that they knew.

The lunch bell rang and I walked with them. They said they were looking for someone but they didn't tell me who. Down the hall, we came across Gerard. Rick kicked the back of his legs and started hitting him. I felt so bad watching them hurt Gerard. It's not like I could do anything though. Thoughts of Gerard went through my head as I watched in horror. Finally they asked me to join in. I just couldn't. I waited a few seconds, then saw Gerard's face. His face was covered with blood as it rand down from his nose. He looked terrible. Without saying a word, I outstretched my hand to Gerard. I couldn't deal with it any longer.
"Hey Rick, Shane..." I began to say, "Fuck. Off."
They mumbled something under their breath, turned around and flipped me off, then left.

I found myself with Gerard on the front steps of the school. It didn't look good for my reputation, but I didn't regret anything.
"Thanks Frank..." Gerard said between tears.
"Hey... it's not a big deal... I just-"
"It okay.. don't say anything." Gerard then slowly pressed his pale lips against mine, and we kissed.
I could feel his cold skin on me and I guess everything just went away. The world seemed perfect for a split second. Gerard must've known too. I don't know how, but he knew, and I knew. It was perfect.
He then asked me why I did it and some other stuff. I couldn't really say anything at this point. My head was wrapped around what the other guys would think of me now. I knew it really didn't matter but I thought about it anyways. As long as I "had" Gerard, everything would be okay.
