Chapter 7
"I'm happy to hear the captain is alright," Shera still called Cid captain, like many people did, even if they were married now and she was expecting a baby it was a name she had grown used to. Shera wasn't sure if Marlene and Denzel fully understood the story they had told, but they remembered it well. "It seems that the virus has affected Rocket Town too, but not me..." Her only clue was the child; it was the difference between her and the other inhabitants of Rocket Town. Maybe the virus just couldn't bend two wills, however small one of them may still be.
"Aunty Shera, why do you think Novarion wanted to erase Cid?" Marlene asked.
"Yeah, they said he erased Tseng because he was trying to erase Rufus but Tseng got in the way," Denzel knew that Rufus controlled a lot of power at Shinra, at least that much was clear.
"They must want the air ships..." Shera concluded.

At Shinra Headquarters, the employees continued to work being controlled and not realizing it. "Novarion," an alien looking figure, similar to a human in structure but with peach colored skin and glowing eyes, spoke to another similar figure, slightly taller than the first. "We are yet to learn the ways of their civilization. We have taken no time to learn it in this invasion."
Novarion threw the documents he was reading on the floor of Rufus' office. "When that exiled one was sent here, I'm sure this civilization wasn't as advanced as it is now. This place, this Shinra, is supposed to have all the knowledge but they are so unorganized, and there are so many contradictions in their documents. Why are they so many? The exiled one should have destroyed them, that villain served no purpose if she did not."
"Sir, maybe these are not the descendants ancient but another race that settled here."
Novarion considered the possibility. "Perhaps, but either way they are obstacles. Then again, maybe we should be thankful there are so many. When they're lives return to the planet the life stream will strengthen itself and serve as fuel for our new ship for a long time."
It was how they race worked, traveling from planet to planet and using each one as transportation. They were searching for a home that satisfied their needs and wants, but always thought there was something better out there and ended up destroying many planets where they could have peacefully settled. Ambition was the reason they were yet to find a home.
Long ago, one of their kind nearly destroyed them to claim leadership of the race among the few survivors, they defeated the villain and exiled her hoping that she would rid the galaxy of more inhabitants, which would eventually make their task easier, it was her nature to infiltrate and destroy after all. She was known as Jenova.
That was long ago, and it was the descendants of those who exiled Jenova, who now tried to claim the planet she could no claim in the past. The last planet they used as a vessel was hardly enough to get them there. They landed in the Northern Crater in the wound that was still healing, and moved to Shinra from there.
Novarion and his followers, had machinery to amplify their mind control powers, but even if the machine allowed them to use those abilities in a large number of people at once, it left them exhausted, and that exhaustion brought impatience; plus the mind control wasn't as strong as when it was focused on one person.

"What's the secret, what is it that you were hiding back there?" Red XIII suddenly asked, while he and Rufus were working at the Cosmo Canyon observatory.
"Elena didn't mention many details but I understood. I suppose it doesn't matter if I tell you," Rufus caught Red XIII's full attention with that admittance. "The cure for the virus depends on the planet and on the life stream. It was a healing device constructed and never tested, it was never needed. In hidden bellow ground, under the sea near Junon, not to far from the reactor, there is another reactor which was never completed. We modified it as a way to connect with the life stream. Should the planet ever need it, would could put materia there and allow the planet to take it and use its power to heal itself."
"Then it's a way to give what was taken back to the planet, except you're not planning to use it unless the planet really needs it. That sounds a little selfish since you really should return what you took, no question about it. But there's more isn't there?" Seeing Rufus' expression, Red XIII knew there had to be more.
"Right now we are the one that need help, Elena and rude can operate the machine to connect it to the life stream, then we'll have to wait and hope the planet wants to help us. If it doesn't, I don't know how to cure this virus. I suppose it can be weakened by will, but to cure it completely, once again it's up to the planet to decide." Rufus was surprisingly calm about this, and he didn't hide it.
"If the planet chooses not to help, you're planning to force it aren't you?" Red XIII asked what he already knew, just to be sure, but he knew it.
"Can that truly be done?" Rufus' expression was confident, as if saying he was in charge, not the planet, not anyone else. "Either way what good is a planet if no one lives on it? If you wish to catch up with them go ahead, but by now cloud must have been informed of the truth. What do you think he will choose; the planet or all the living beings on it?"

"Rude are you sure this is alright?" Elena called as she dodged bullets and ran for her life.
"It's fine, relax." Rude's expression had not changed in the entire time the Junon army had been chasing them.
"Relax you say?!" Cid yelled exasperated, how could anyone relax with bullets flying left and right? "This is not the time to relax!"
"We don't have time to fight them, and they are on our side, they're just being controlled. We'll have to take a submarine and leave. Besides," Rude looked at the submarines docks ahead, they were in luck. "There is only one submarine; they won't be able to follow us."
"That's good but this dodging bullets thing is harder than it looks in the movies. Do you, Reno and Tseng do this often?" Elena asked, as if looking for some encouragement, the knowledge that it could be done in reality.
"I don't know about Tseng, I'm sure he rarely got into this much trouble but Reno and I used to do this all the time. I think he enjoyed it, he caused trouble on purpose sometimes, when the mission was about to end, so we could run away like this. He would always look back at the last moment and stick his tongue out at the people chasing us." Rude had been slightly upset at Reno many times in the past, but he got used to it, and he was never truly angry. Tseng was right to send Rude on a team with Reno, and rarely anyone else, as Rude was the only one who truly had the patience to deal with Reno.
"Is he crazy or suicidal?" Cid didn't doubt that Rude's story was true, he didn't doubt it for a moment, and it was in fact true.
"Probably both," Elena replied, she very much preferred the more professional and elegant way that Tseng carried himself.
The three hopped into the submarine, by some miracle unharmed and sunk into the waters. They had parked the air ship Shera far from Junon just in case, but Cid wanted to hurry anyway before they found it.
Deep underwater not too far from the reactor, there was a cave that led to a secret base, part of it new and part build a few years ago. "This the place? So what exactly do we have to bring back?" Cid asked.
"Not much..." Rude truthfully replied.
Cid sensed there was more to this than it appeared. "The truth?"
Rude nodded and Elena answered. "With the materia holy, the planet will heal us, the elixirs are just to strengthen it." They ventured into deep into the base, passing various electronic locks.
"What exactly does that mean, and how would you get holy?" Cid watched as Elena opened the box, "holy materia... I thought that box had Jenova's last cells!"
"Jenova's cells are safe; we'll have to use this with that machine now." Elena approached a modified reactor.
"This won't cause a negative reaction to the planet, right?" Cid suspiciously asked. He didn't like how this was unfolding, and finding that the Turks were not completely honest.
"It will work out for the best of the human race," Rude's words could be taken in many ways, and he had purposely said it that way. He loaded up the elixirs and the machine absorbed them. "It is activated."
A pale green glow came from the machine and soon the light flooded the entire room. "That won't be needed..." A male voice, that did not belong to Rude or Cid was heard. They searched for the source and saw the ghostly image of a young man. He had spiky black hair, mako eyes was dressed as a Soldier. "Instead of trying to force the planet to heal you with this machine, try having a little faith that it won't refuse."
"I'll talk to the planet for you," another voice was heard, this time female, and it was not Elena. A familiar ghostly figure appeared; she had brown hair, green eyes, she was wearing pink and had a matching a ribbon in her hair.
"Aeris!" Cid recognized her. "Then you are..."
"Zack Fair, another friend of Cloud," Zack introduced himself. "Aeris is really good at talking to the planet, you'd best leave this to her."
"Allow me to help you with this," Aeris offered.
Cid watched in amazement, he wished Cloud had come; he probably wanted to see this. Elena gave the holy materia to Aeris, who received it despite her semi-transparent form. Her healing magic was spread all over the planet and all those affected by the virus recovered.

"I... I feel something," for a moment cloud thought he saw Zack and Aeris, but they quickly faded.
"Tseng..." Reno spoke the name much more naturally than before. "I remember!"
"I think the virus is gone, Cid, Elena and Rude must have done it somehow." Tifa too felt a familiar presence. "Somehow, I think they had more help."
"I think I know what you mean," Cloud smiled. The three continued walking down the streets of Wutai until some screams caught their attention. They rushed to find a strange creature similar to Jenova.
"Cloud! Did you bring my materia?!" Yuffie joined them. "That thing was disguised as a traveling ninja, a famous one that everyone admired, even me. Then suddenly we all realized we were being tricked!"
"You were affected by a virus but it was healed," cloud quickly explained and drew his sword. "That thing is an alien similar to Jenova, but not quite as powerful."
"You don't need to say anymore! We'll have to get rid of it!" Yuffie got her shuriken ready for battle.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to help out as well," Reeve arrived followed by Cait Sith. "I thought there was something strange going on so I left to investigate; it looks like I got here just in time."
"You weak humans cannot defeat me!" The alien prepared for battle.
"Let's get rid of that alien, no one gets in the way of Reno and the Turks!" Reno paused, realizing he was not heading into battle with his usual companions and added, "or these other guys."
"We'll defeat it together, this is our planet and you can't take it." Tifa had been trough enough; she was done being patient and keeping everyone's cool, now it was time to take it all out on that alien.
"Alright, let's beat that thing!" With Yuffie's war cry, they all attacked.

Calamity: Epilogue
Defeating the alien at Wutai was not as easy as it looked, but the group won and regrouped at the Cosmo Canyon.
"The first time Jenova was defeated the planet did it," Rufus revealed, what he and Red XIII had discovered.
"The power of the planet activated because of the great danger, like it happened with Meteor," Red XIII elaborated.
Cloud, Tifa, Yuffie, Barret, Cid, Reno, Rude, Elena and Reeve knew what that meant. "The planet has not had time to recover," Reeve correctly concluded.
"We'll have to do it ourselves this time," Cloud spoke.
A very Turks-like theme was once again head and Reno answered his phs. "Hey, it's lab rabbit again."
"Reno, for some reason the enemy had left Shinra Headquarters. The systems are back to normal and when I tried to restore the database it worked. Everything is being fixed. The ones behind this were found to be retreating to the Northern Crater."
"Figures, it's always the Northern Crater, we'll finish this soon," Reno waited for the next move from Rufus.
"We'll get the Shinra army ready and head for the Northern Crater, Cloud, what about your group?" Rufus asked.
"If everyone still has a reason, then we're going," everyone agreed, and soon they were off to the final battle.

The air ship Shera flew near the Northern Crater. "There were many more aliens in the asteroids that landed there, but they will soon be out of the way." Rufus informed Cloud's group. "Another of your friends is also here. The way is clear now..."
The Shera headed in, with no time to ask Rufus was he meant before he ended the communication. Cid landed the air ship near the Northern Crater's entrance and Cloud, and his friends went in. They found that Reeve and the Turks were there with several Shinra cadets and Vincent.
"Vincent!" Cloud called out to him.
"I thought I should come find out what was happening here," Vincent always appeared when he was needed, it was just the way he was.
Rufus stepped forward, surprising everyone with his presence there personally commanding the Turks. To their surprise Tseng was also there. Noting the curious glances of Cloud's group, Reno just had to comment, "oh yeah should have seen the reunion those two had," he showed off a picture on his phs screen of Tseng and Elena kissing.
"Reno! Delete that!" Elena yelled blushing, while Reno stuck out his tongue.
Tseng just shook his head. "I won't miss out on anything else."

The battle was not an easy one. Novarion was supposed to be of the same kind of Jenova but weaker, it was a grave miscalculation. Rufus had since retreated to safety, and many Shinra cadets fell in battle. Though he intended for all of the Turks and Reeve to go with him, Tseng requested to stay, and so did Elena. Rufus did not oppose and left along with Reno, Rude and Reeve, saying something about a second plan and reinforcements.
Novarion's attacks encompassed a power similar to materia, and drain away energy as well, to feed on it making him stronger. Though the group had the advantage in number, this was not looking well. This one is not like the others that were traveling with him," Vincent observed.
Cloud knew right away what he meant, "he's like Jenova, except he wasn't exiled... But we won't let him win!"
The fierce battle continued; Reeve had left Cait Sith with them, who also served as a link between the events of the Northern Crater and Shinra.

At Shinra Headquarters... "They are exhausted. Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Cid, Red XIII, Vincent, Yuffie, Tseng, Elena... how long will they last."
"We're not waiting any longer. Reno, Rude, is it ready?" Rufus asked.
"Yeah, it's done," Reno announced.
"The Shinra satellite is operational, and ready to shoot," Rude confirmed.
"Alright, then there's no time to waste. Reeve, inform Tseng and Elena to get out of the way. Reno, Rude, be ready to activate the satellite cannon." It was done as Rufus said...
xoxox xox xoxox
"Everyone out of the way!" Cait Sith yelled. "The big cannon from the sky is about to shoot!"
They rush to get away from Novarion, and he of course, tried to stop them. The satellite fired, missing both cloud's tem and Novarion. However, from the Turks' point of view, the target was hit. Life stream rushed out of the planet, from the wound created by the beam.
"We're sorry, planet... but we need one more ally." Tseng signaled Elena, and she threw the silver pocket watch into the life stream.
"What are you doing?" Cloud demanded.
"It's to stop Novarion's special power, to take the life stream of who ever damages his, and use it to restore it. That is to say, who ever kills him will lose their life, and that will revive him. It's something I learned while I was kept prisoner." Tseng explained. "This was only something to be done as a last resort, but we have no choice given the circumstances, even if you disprove."
"Even if I disprove?" Cloud questioned.
"Tseng, what exactly is going to happen?" Tifa demanded to know.
"He's coming back to defend what he thinks is his mother's planet," They knew right away who Elena was talking about, as unbelievable as it sounded.
"Sephiroth..." No sooner had the name been spoken, the one winged angel himself appeared from the life stream. Cloud was about to go after him, but stopped when he saw the figures of Zack and Aeris in the life stream, as if telling him to step back, and let Sephiroth handle things this time.
"You, who tried to steal what is rightfully mine," Sephiroth spoke to Novarion. "For that you will pay with your life." He then looked towards Cloud, "you will be next, Cloud."
xoxox xox xoxox
"The life stream, a current that flows in all living things, people, animals, plants, and even the planet itself. Aliens too have a current inside of them similar to ours, but with some key differences. That time when the planet could not fight, weakened from Meteor and from trying to save us willingly; it was our duty to defend it, that's what I was told..." Marlene looked to the peaceful skies of Midgar, the battle was won and the world was once again recovering.
"That time five years ago, the only way they could think of to win without sacrificing a life, that would have been lost in vain, was by using the planet's own nightmare to save the planet," Denzel continued the narration, and a young child listened to the story. "Sephiroth did not want to help us, but he claimed this planet as his own, as felt that Novarion was trying to steal it from him. Cloud and the other witnessed Sephiroth's power like never before, and because he was already one with the planet in a way, even if he refused to unite with the life stream, Novarion could not absorb his life stream when he was defeated."
Marlene continued, "in ancient times, it was the planet who defeated Jenova. That time more recently, Sephiroth unknowingly aided the planet and wielded the power of the planet to defeat Novarion, and the actions of those aliens who stole planets using them as ships were brought to an end..."
The child of Cid and Shera always liked listening to those stories. The three went inside the Seventh Heaven, home of Cloud and Tifa Strife, now a married couple. Five years had passed in peace, and today they were having a reunion.
