The Same Battle
0 ReviewsThere was a difference between the little boy that was afraid of the street gangs and the man with the meteor looming in the sky.
They had failed, Reno had failed, and in this failure, it doomed their entire planet. He wasn't used to this, not like this...
The redhead stared up at the red streaked sky, the malevelent orb looming many more times the size of the moon. For the first time, the very first time, Reno felt helpless, and the stirrings of something started in the back of his head. He'd been scared, sure. Life hadn't always been easy before he got the job with the Turks. But this wasn't just a little boy being afraid of street gangs or running from the police with a stolen pocket full of food... it was /fear/.
The fate of the turks fell to him with Tseng out of the action. Yeah, sure, Rude was the same rank and senority, but the man preferred taking a back seat to others, he never felt comfortable ordering others, where Reno felt the responsibility of watching out for the other turks. Nobody would have really pegged him for a responsible one, and to tell the truth he wasn't much, it was the part of him that looked at all the others as siblings in a big family. It fit, too, somehow, as many of them had either lost their families early in life or left to get jobs in the city. He was like their big brother.
Voices floated from behind him, and he checked his gear once again, snapping his rod out and collapsing it again. Elena and Rude were there, Tseng was giving orders, AVALANCHE was heading towards Midgar... it was time for the showdown.
It was pointless, there was no reason to stop them anymore- if Rufus died, that was it. The planet would still be doomed, Sephiroth would still be sitting in his cozy little crater, nothing would change. In the end, they were fighting for the same reasons, fighting the same battle, whether either of the groups liked it or not.
Kind of amusing listening to Elena spout off the motto and tenets, as if they were the only things that mattered now, she was still so young and baby-faced. Rude would do anything the others did...
And Reno..
Reno was tired of fighting, tired of being beaten, tired of being afraid. If anything, AVALANCHE would be the ones to defeat Sephiroth. That was an ironic point right there, last time they had been the ones that needed defeating.
Tseng's voice gave the command, and Reno turned, away from the meteor, to face his fear and see if salvation was around the corner. He was still a turk, after all. That's what turks did.
