Pestilence was bored.
He'd done the Horseman thing for a long time, causing arguments and spontaneous generation of disease. The Black Plague was really one of his absolute favourite conquests. The co-authorship of the Irish Potato Famine, courtesy of himself and Famine and DEATH, had been lovely as well.
Then, he had gotten tired. And stopped for a while. That's where Pollution came from -- someone to fill in where Pestilence stopped, since there needed to be four Horsepeople, and, well, Pollution was a sort of pestilent segue.
It was only after that Pestilence realized not destroying things was painfully boring.
