Gag Reflex
1 ReviewsHojo always curled Reno's stomach for some reason, he just couldn't pinpoint why... until now. BC Canon
My nose really crinkles around the guy. Don't tell anyone this, but I think the President notices it too, sometimes I see him walk away from the sleaze. Oh, he does it real cleverly, pretending it's for some other reason, but that's just the boss. Sometimes I wish I could manage to look that nonchalant around the smell and walk off without looking like it.
The other turks shift uncomfortably, uneasiness spreading. I can't see it but I know they're uneasy... you don't work with people like this without knowing their moods. Tseng looks to Veld, wondering if we were really going to go through with it. I look around at the other Turks, they all have the same expression I must have; slightly curled lips and squinched noses, disgusted looks if I ever saw one.
Yeah, we were hired to keep secrets and loyalty, but what the hell is Hojo thinking? Does he even have permission from the boss to do this? We can't say no, though, just like everyone else on the board of directors, Hojo's got the power to order us. Especially today, and he knows how to use it to get what he wants. Even the President will accept anything from this man as long as he's got a good explanation.
"Look, we can't keep doing things like this..." I plead with Tseng, looking at the bodies we'd have to tote to the basement... twisted, slashed bodies that barely resembled the humans they used to be. Hands hanging off of arms by a tendon, throats sliced like a cut through view in a health science class with blood dripping down the skin, the worst ones were the burnt remains. They didn't just stink of blood and feces... also rotten, burnt meat. As many battlefields I've seen in my career, it still curls my stomach and I swore off meat for a while. The sheer rampant destruction got to me. I bet Rude was thinking the same when I see his face. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother the others... maybe they were just hiding the gag reflex.
Veld looked more grim than I'd ever seen him in my entire time as a Turk. The next thing I know, we're all leaving... and Veld was staying. He was going to do the job so we didn't have to.
All because of Hojo. Veld was going to sacrifice himself to protect us...
Hate boiled up in my gut when we got on the helicopter, and I sat down in the back, letting someone else take the reins for now. A few of the others look over at me, I just give them that little smile I give when I don't want people to know what I'm thinking. I think they figure it out though. They have to be thinking the same thing.
"Hojo."
It startles me, I look up to see Rude and Rod sitting across from me. My smile turns into something a bit nastier, and they nod. I knew they were thinking the same thing, see?
We swore then. Hojo'd have his comeuppance, and he'd know it. Someday, that bastard would go too far... and then the Turks would play.
