This is one of the most interestig stories I have read about Sephiroth. Admittedly I usually pass Sephiroth stories by since most of them include a sexual relationship with someone and if there's a character who I imagine as being sexless, Sephiroth is definitely him.
The relationship between Hojo and Sephiroth which you have created is believable and interesting. I especially enjoyed the complex scene of the fight between them when Sephiroth leaves in disgust, but also still listens in disbelief when he thinks he hears Hojo praising him. You make Hojo into a twisted father figure whom Sephiroth despises at the same time as he craves Hojo's approval.
The Wutaian warrior felt like a bit of a loose end to me. The concept of the weapons which absorb souls was fascinating, however, and I enjoyed the description of Sephiroth's first battle and the madness it unleashed within him.
Sephiroth is the type of insane and almighty character whose motivation is very difficult to decipher. It must have been a challenge to write from his perspective.
