Cats and Men

Rick is somewhere on his sixth or seventh life, and he's still far too curious for his own good. [Drabble]

Category: Mummy - Rating: PG - Genres: Humor - Characters: Rick - Published: 2007/01/06 - Updated: 2007/01/06 - 350 words - Complete

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters nor the concept of The Mummy. To the ones that do I only have this to say; the rest of the trilogy was pretty, but you really fucked it up plotwise. But like I said, it was really pretty.

Warnings: None! Oh, it's short!

Notes: Drabbe from when I thought I'd be able to get into this fandom. Sadly, it was not to be so this is all I have to offer. Brief introspective from Rick during the first movie.

And sometimes he wonders why.

Why in the hell was he going back to that damned city? It's not that he feels he owes them his life. They only saved him for their own purposes. He owes them nothing.

It's not that he promised he would. He was desperate and would've promised anything to live. Promises mean nothing to him, he could've just walked away after he was free.

It's not because of Evie. Despite what the others seem to think. She wasn't the most beautiful woman he'd seen. In each city he'd been to he had a woman twice as beautiful waiting for him, or cursing his existence. It wasn't because of her complete clumsiness. It was surprising how cute he found it, but it only made him think of her as a child.

So, why was he going back?

He didn't really know why, but he had a feeling it was because of the last thing he saw at the city. A striking figure in black silently watching him trudge through the blood soaked sands. Though the man had been on top of the cliff overlooking the city he'd felt his intense gaze.

There were a lot of things he wasn't. Noble, kind, heroic, fair, trustworthy. Just a few words off the long list of things Rick O'Connel wasn't. The one thing that he was, and he damned himself every time for it, was curious with a dash of stupid. All right, more than just a dash of stupid.

Clicking his tongue he urged the camel onward.
