Being there for you
1 ReviewsA teenage girl goes missing, when the team arrives they fear that there is a Sadistic Sexual predator roaming the streets of Miami.
“No you don’t understand mom! I need more freedom… I can’t always take care of my sister just because you are always going out!” Stephanie Dalesend shouted down the stairs. “Where do you even go? To go to work? You always tell me that, it’s as if you don’t care anymore. Mom you are not even here to see your daughters grow up, I know that you aren’t because I am fifteen and you are barely here for me!”
The sound of footsteps echoed loudly up the stairs. Her mother opened the door and looked at her in worry, Stephanie looked away. “Honey you know where I go, I have to work because your father doesn’t want anything to do with this family.”
Stephanie looked up and sobbed. “Mom why did he leave? Does he hate us or does he just hate me? He told me that he would always be there for me, so why did he leave us?”
“Stephanie, sometimes people make decisions based on their thoughts. Your father’s choice was to leave because of something that I did… Nothing that you did made this happen; your father still loves you and wants to be near you and your sister Kayla.”
She put her face in her hands and wept. “But mom he told me that you did nothing as well and that it was his choice to go to live with that other woman who wants to get into my life.”
“She wants to get into Kayla’s life as well Steph, don’t go blaming her for your father’s mishaps. Anyway Vanessa is a very good polite person.” Her mother smiled wistfully. “Try and get to know her before you make the mistake of hating her for good.”
Stephanie snorted. “I am not getting to know somebody who wants to take the place of my mother.” She paused. “How long are you going to be at work?”
“Well if you’ll let me leave now, I’ll be back before eleven thirty.” Her mother smiled at her. “And to tell you something about what you said before you asked that question. Vanessa wants you to respect her, not to call her your mother. I mean she knows that I am your mother and not her so why don’t you just make friends with her like you do at school and go on from there?”
“Because she doesn’t seem to notice anybody else except my sister, she cares more about her than I do so why don’t you ask her to babysit for the brat?” Stephanie asked as she sat down on the bed and sighed. “You should see Kayla and Vanessa together when they are alone; they seem like a pleasant pair of people. I am surprised that Kayla doesn’t want to live with them to be with her.”
Her mother looked at her and then down at the floor. “Vanessa has asked me to ask Kayla if she wanted to live with them. I haven’t even asked her yet, maybe you can do that for me.”
“I’ll ask but you know how Kayla is right? I mean she’s only five years old, she doesn’t know what is going on right now and you should hear all the questions that she asks.” Stephanie suddenly smiled. “She’s really smart for a five year old. I am happy that she’s in my life.”
Her mother looked at her watch and headed towards the door. “I have to be at the diner right now Stephanie but if you want to, we can talk about this later.”
“I want to do that mom; I find that talking things out with someone helps with cleaning the mind to think other thoughts.” Stephanie said as she followed her mother down the stairs. “Where is Kayla?”
“She’s watching Lion king right now, she might want you to change it after it’s finished.” She stopped and looked at her daughter. “Stephanie, I have a bad feeling that something is going to happen to you guys. Please make sure that you lock the door tight tonight, I am not in the mood to go down to the hospital to pick you guys again after that burglar got in and decided that taking stuff wasn’t that great of an idea with two girls inside the house.”
“Mom what is the worst that is going to happen tonight? There’s nothing that bad about babysitting except for telling Kayla that its bedtime.”
Her mother frowned as she looked out the door. “I don’t know but I have this feeling that something is going to happen.”
Stephanie bit her lip and looked at Kayla who was sitting in a large chair laughing at the screen. “Mom when you get back we’ll be safe inside the house.”
“Okay sweetheart.” Her mother gave up. “Make sure that you lock the doors and that large window out back and then make sure that you cook dinner.”
“Mom, mom I know all of that.”
After her mother left she locked all the doors and windows, making sure that they were all locked up tight she satisfied herself with listening to the laugh of her sister. She walked into the kitchen and took out a few bowels, she looked into the living room again, she saw Kayla walking towards her.
“So Kayla, what do you want to have for dinner?” She asked as she bent down to give her sister a hug.
Kayla laughed and then pointed to Kraft dinner box. “I want Kraft dinner.”
“Okay.” She laughed. “Okay, Kraft dinner it is. Its getting pretty dark out don’t you think?”
“Yes it is, I don’t want to go to bed just yet though.” Kayla said softly.
Stephanie smiled. “No you aren’t going to be Kay, not yet anyway. As soon as the clock says eight o clock you have to go to bed.”
“Oh, it’s only six thirty Steph. So that means I have a lot of time before I go to bed.”
Kayla went back into the living room and sat down, she stared at Stephanie while she got everything together to make the Kraft dinner. Stephanie didn’t know why but suddenly she was in the mood to have some Kraft dinner as well.
As Kayla studied her sister she was happy, she rolled a blonde curl and blinked. She wanted to have Kraft dinner because Stephanie made it pretty good; she loved the way that the noodles went together with the ketup and pepper.
She turned on the TV; mom had made sure that it was on a cartoon channel for her to watch. Scooby Doo flashed on the screen and she smiled as she listened to the music. She had always loved that show and she knew that Stephanie did as well.
“Kay the Kraft dinner is almost ready!” She heard Stephanie shout in the kitchen. “What are you watching?”
“Scooby doo.” She shouted back. “Don’t you hear the music?”
There was a pause as she listened to the music, her sister stepped through the doorway with a frown. “I didn’t hear anything from the kitchen Kay. Why don’t you turn up the volume so that I can listen to the song?”
She looked at the screen with a sigh. “But the song is over Steph… I don’t think that you want to listen to voices do you?”
“Kay, you know how much I love that show and I still watch it with you. I am in the kitchen and I want to know what the show is about.” Stephanie sighed and looked at her sister with a smile. “Maybe later we can watch a movie.”
Kayla looked up with a smile, her blonde curls bouncing. “Really? Me and you?”
“Yeah and this time its your turn to pick.” She said going back into the kitchen. She brought out the noodles and strained them and then put them in two pink bowels. She put ketup and pepper on both of them, grabbing two forks she walked into the living room and set down a bowel and dropped the fork into it.
“There’s your Kraft dinner Kay. I hope that you enjoy it.”
Kayla looked at her and smiled. “I always love Kraft dinner.”
“I know that’s exactly the reason why I decided to make it you little fartknocker.”
She laughed; she always loved what her sister said. “If I was what you said then I wouldn’t be myself.”
“The thing that I love about you is the fact that you are so smart.” Stephanie laughed. “Do you want to do my homework for me?”
“I am only in kindergarten Stephanie… I can’t do grade nine homework just yet.”
Stephanie looked at her and smiled. “Do you have homework that you have to do?”
“No I finished it with mom earlier.” She tried to say something else when there was a loud knock on the door. “Are you going to answer that?”
Stephanie looked at her and sighed. “I don’t think so, if its urgent then I will.”
“Well it sounds pretty urgent to me.” Kayla said softly as the door thudded loudly.
Stephanie looked up and frowned. Maybe the reason why somebody was knocking on the door was because they were in trouble.
“Open up police!” A male’s loud voice shouted out.
“Steph I am scared!” Kayla whimpered. “I don’t want you to open up the door to him.”
Stephanie looked at Kayla and smiled. “Police men don’t hurt people. If you are so scared then why don’t you go hide somewhere?”
Kayla cried softly as she went into the kitchen and hid in with the pots and pans underneath the sink. She didn’t want Stephanie to open the door because she didn’t like the sound of the police man’s voice. She watched as Stephanie went towards the door to open it.
“Hello, did something bad happen to my mother?” She heard Stephanie ask in a tiny voice. She clutched the door handle tightly; she didn’t want the police man to find her.
“No nothing bad happened to her.” The police man said, pushing her aside as he looked around the room. “Are you alone tonight?”
“Yes I am.” Stephanie said looking at the cupboard. “There’s nobody here but me.”
Suddenly she yelped in pain when the police officer’s hand connected with her jaw.
“You are mine now!” He screamed at her.
She watched as the man got closer and screamed as he bent down to her on the floor, he grabbed her arm and yanked pulling her up from the floor. She screeched when she saw the cupboard door open, she saw it bang shut again. She hoped that Kayla never opened it again until mom came home.
I have to fight back! I have to or I will die and he’ll kill me for sure! Her mind screamed at her.
She crunched her fist into the side of his head, the sound of bone snapping was music to her ears. She hoped that it hurt him when she punched him. The man brought his hands to his head and released her, she got up and ran to the door. She looked back at the cupboard and sighed, she knew that Kayla would not open the door without her coming back. She would wait for mom to get back to save her.
Before she reached the door, the man grabbed her wrist and twisted. She howled in pain and surprise, this meant that he was hard to bring down. She noticed that there was no gun, she never knew a police officer to go around without a gun before. That meant that this was no police officer… that it was a random man inside her house! He was going to kill her for sure.
“You know that was a mistake on your part!” The man shouted at her as he brought out a rag and placed it on her nose, she writhed and twisted trying to fight off the man’s arm. He was way to strong for her. “As I said before you are mine and nobody is going to save you from me.”
But she didn’t hear what he said to her, she struggled to hear him but she blacked out before she could listen to him.
Horatio stood outside the door of the house, he saw a mother holding her young blonde daughter close to her. He knew that a fifteen year old girl was missing and that bothered him. That meant that if they didn’t work fast then the girl would be dead in a couple of hours.
“Horatio, the girl said that a police officer came to the door and wanted to come in.” Eric called out as Horatio walked into the door and towards the stairs.
“Did she?” Horatio stopped and looked at him. “Do you think that it was a police officer who did this?”
“No. I think that it’s a fake.” He paused. “I also think that the FBI are going to be involved in this one.”
Calleigh walked down the stairs. “I am so happy that Alexx is not here right now… at least she’s not involved in this one.”
“I don’t want to find this girl dead; I want to find her alive.” Horatio said looking around. “Where’s Natalie?”
“She got lost on the freeway, or should I say highway.” Calleigh rolled her eyes. “That girl has to realize that she’s no longer in Canada but I think that she’s way too stubborn to figure that out.”
He looked at her; he needed Natalie here so that she could process the scene. He couldn’t wait for her to show up but then again she was new to the area and had to find her way to the house.
“Did you question the mother?” He asked as Eric walked over to the window to look out.
“Yes, she’s really broken up. She wants her daughter and she wants us to find her before she’s found dead. I guess that the FBI are going to get involved after all.” Eric paused as a car screeched to a halt. “Speed and Natalie are here, you should ask Natalie about what this kidnapper is about. She’s good at profiling.”
He watched through the window as Speed and Natalie walked up to the door and walked inside, he was certain that anger flashed on Natalie’s face as she walked through the door. He was also certain that she would hurt the man that took the teenage girl, either that or kill him for what he had done.
“What do you think of the case so far?” Natalie asked Horatio as she walked to the pictures that were hanging up on the wall.
He paused, he hadn’t really thought of the case so far. The only thing that he really thought about was a missing fifteen year old girl that was going to die if they didn’t get her soon. “A teenage girl went missing. What is there to think about except for her safety?”
“Ah so you are thinking of a sexual sadistic predator that will take girls out of their own homes.” Natalie said with a smile, he could see that she was deep in thought. Her brown eyes told him that much.
Calleigh raised an eyebrow. “What makes you say that?”
“Well look at the way that our girl went missing. She was taken by force and not by talking; she is scared for her life, put up a struggle and probably is on the predators kill list.” She paused as she thought of what to say next. “I’d bet that she was on his mind day and night, he started having fantasy’s about her and had to bring them to life. This guy wants satisfaction; if she doesn’t give it to him she will be killed.”
Horatio stared at her for a moment and then looked down, he didn’t want to think that the girl will die because she doesn’t do what she was told. He knew with a sinking feeling though that Natalie was right, if Stephanie didn’t do what the predator told her to do then she would be killed for sure. He hoped that she was fighting him and got away, he wasn’t in a good mood to be processing her body.
“H what do you want us to do?” Speed asked as the silence grew longer.
Horatio put on his sunglasses and started walking for the door. “This guy took her and we are going to get her back.”
“Where are you going?” Eric asked as he watched his boss open the door.
He paused and looked at him. “I am going to find out if there are any other girls that are missing; I am also going to try to find out if any of them are alive. I have a feeling that he did this more than once.”
Speed shrugged as Eric turned back to him. “You can’t argue with the boss, as soon as he has a feeling that something else happened you can’t bring him out of it.”
