Story Ten: Island Paradise
Yuri and Wolfram were still quite frightened when their ship, Calm Ocean, reached the port of the first stop in their vocational destination. It was a small tropical island off the coast of new Mazoku known as Island Paradise. The two boys rushed out of the ship, looking quite silly, panicking over seemingly nothing.
The people who had gathered to welcome them, gave them strange looks but tried not to be too obvious. "Welcome!" A rather overweight man with a silly festive hat decorated with colorful flowers and feather and a colorful red shirt with yellow flowers, approached the Maoh and his fiancé. "We welcome you to our lovely Island Paradise; we have prepared everything for you to enjoy your stay."
Yuri took a moment to catch his breath after fearing the worse during the entire trip, "thank you, it's good to be here," very good indeed, and a huge relief to still be alive.
Two young men dressed in a red and yellow bellhop uniforms, went to the ship to get the luggage. Yuri was about to warn them of the danger, but realized that maybe he was overacting. After all, the ship made it to the island without too much trouble, save for changing Wolfram's symptoms instead of curing them. Sure enough, the men made it out of the ship with no trouble and carried the luggage.
Yuri and Wolfram were shown to a cute little beach house that was elegant but not overly fancy, for that relaxed vacation feel. "We really should have trusted Anissina more," Yuri mused while digging around his luggage for his black swim trunks to wear at the beach.
"Better safe than sorry," Wolfram grabbed his blue swim trunks and started to change.
Yuri was about to protest, but soon remembered that they often bathed together anyway, so he just changed there as well, sneaking glances at Wolfram, just as often as Wolfram glanced at Yuri. Once they were both ready, the Maoh and his fiancé went to relax at the beach in an area of the island that had been reserved just for them.
A girl wearing a grass skirt and many flower decorations came to bring some refreshments, supplies and flower necklaces. "Don't forget to use sunscreen and if you need anything just call." She handed Yuri a megaphone.
"I should call with this?" Yuri examined the megaphone, it felt like a bit of an exaggeration, but the girl was serious about it.
The girl nodded, "yes, my name is Starfish. If you don't need anything for now, I'll leave you two alone, have a good time!"
"Yuri was still a bit surprised with the megaphone, "sure, no problem, thanks..." After the girl left, Yuri looked at Wolfram as if waiting for him to say something about the megaphone. It must mean that Starfish, which was possibly just a nickname rather than her real name, would be too far away to hear them calling without the megaphone. It sounded like they really wanted to give them their privacy.
But Wolfram's attention was fixed on the beach supplies. "You better listen and use the sun screen or you'll get sun burn."
Yuri set the megaphone down. "I guess you're right."
Wolfram grabbed the bottle before Yuri could get it, "let me do it, then you can put sunscreen on me too, okay?" Wolfram gave Yuri his most charming smile.
Yuri couldn't help it but to blush, smile and nod. The trip had been off to a difficult start when Yuri discovered the ship was Anissina's invention, but in the end nothing bad happened. Feeling Wolfram's hands on him, the warm sun and the soft ocean breeze, Yuri concluded that this was indeed an Island Paradise. The Maoh suspected that Wolfram took a little longer than needed to spread the lotion on his body, but Yuri didn't mind.
Then it was Wolfram's turn and Yuri applied the sunscreen. He mentally planed out different scenarios in which to admit his feelings. Wolfram had been waiting for a long time and he deserved something special. Then a soft buzzing sound broke his concentration. "Wolfram, do you hear that?"
"It is a bear bee?" It would make no sense for a bear bee to be there. This wasn't their usual type of climate, but the buzzing sound was similar except there was no 'nogisu' to accompany it.
"I don't see any..." Yuri looked around and noticed that the megaphone was glowing strangely, "the megaphone!"
Wolfram looked at the megaphone in alarm, "could this have been made by Anissina?"
Yuri picked up the megaphone against his better judgment and noticed the words 'Sir Very Loud' written on it. That reminded him of the names Anissina gave her inventions. "Now that you mention it, it does look like Anissina made it."
"Then don't touch it!" Wolfram snatched the megaphone from Yuri and threw it into the ocean with all his might.
"Wolfram! That wasn't-" before Yuri could finish scolding Wolfram for throwing the megaphone away, the device that had sunk into the sea exploded under water, creating a massive tidal wave which came crashing down on Yuri and Wolfram.
The two boys struggled to reach the surface and stay together, until the sea returned to its previous semi-calm state with soft waves. "I knew it was dangerous!"
"You saved my life..." Though he had complained before, now Yuri was glad Wolfram acted so quickly. Sure they were wet, but a bath in sea water was better than being so close to an explosion of that magnitude, despite the relatively small size of the megaphone.
"Of course I did, I'll always protect you, that's what a good fiancé would do, right?" Wolfram asked proudly. "But now we're all wet..."
"Right," Yuri smiled, "I'll try my best to protect you too. Being wet is not so bad; I wanted to swim later anyway."
Wolfram paused and stared at Yuri. Did the wimp just accept being his fiancé without complaining, or trying to pretend he didn't hear that part? "Yuri..."
Yuri splashed Wolfram, "why do you look so surprised? Don't tell me there's a vegetarian shark behind me."
"It's not that. It's just..." Maybe Wolfram had imagined it, or misinterpreted what Yuri was saying. "Wimp!" He countered attacked splashing Yuri too.
They played in the water like that for a while, throwing water at each other, splashing around and laughing in their little private beach. Yuri still wanted to do something special for Wolfram, he thought about many possibilities; but had not settled for anything yet since everything he thought of was either not special enough, or too cheesy for his liking. But for now, Yuri just relaxed and enjoyed his time with Wolfram.
