About A Girl
3 Reviewsmichael loves holly. holly loves michael. everyone knows it. except them. TAI!!
“So, you’re saying you’ve never been ice skating before?” Holly asked Michael, as they walked with Bill and Mike down the street to their apartments.
“Nope.” He replied simply.
“You’re for serious?” Holly raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, I’m serious!” He laughed.
“Then I’m totally taking you ice skating tomorrow!” Holly said, jumping up and down, the cold air of December making her cheeks rosy and her breath cloudy. Bill and Mike looked at each other and smiled at how blatantly obvious she was being, flirting with Michael. Everyone knew that they wanted to be more than friends, but were too shy to do anything about it. And Michael was also oblivious to her making moves.
“Okay.” Michael smiled. “I’m up for anything.” He let her run ahead of them, planning to herself.
“Dude, you know she’s flirting, right?” Bill asked Michael.
“What?” Michael looked at them. “How?!”
“She’s taking you ice skating!” Mike said. “You get to hold hands, ‘cause it’s obvious, you’re going to fall down a lot, and she’s going to try and keep you from falling. Dude, this is totally a move!”
“Oh wow.” Michael’s mind was sent reeling. He felt like a teenager again. Suddenly he panicked. “W-what do I do?! I don’t wanna mess this up you guys!”
“Relax. Holly really likes you.” Bill assured him. “I’m sure even if you’re a total klutz tomorrow, she’ll still like you. She goes for that type of thing.” Michael took a deep breath and sighed. He’d hung out with Holly one-on-one and always liked her, but never thought she liked him back.
“How do you know she likes me?”
“Besides the fact you’ve got a date with her tomorrow?” Mike asked. “She told us.”
“What?! When?!”
“A few months ago.” Bill said it like it was nothing big. “I think it was at Krystle’s birthday party and something was bugging her, and the three of us went out to the balcony to talk. She confessed that she has a huge crush on you.”
“Did you tell her-?”
“Nah. She didn’t ask and we decided to let you guys figure this out.” Mike said. “Dude, you guys would be so amazing for each other, just go get some sleep tonight, and wear some padding on your ass tomorrow.”
“You guys!” Holly called from up ahead. “Come on!”
“Coming Hollz!” They ran to catch up with her before going into their building, the guys saying goodnight to Holly and heading down the hall to their own apartment. Michael went straight to his room and changed into a gray wife beater and boxers. He climbed into his bed and sighed. Holly liked him? He started reviewing all the things they’d done together since they’d met through Bill, and started seeing all the little hints she’d dropped. The brush of her hand across his when they were walking close on the sidewalk, the way she hugged him, how she asked him how to teach her guitar, and would purposely mess up her fingers so he’d have to put them right himself. He blushed at the memory of the almost kiss they had then. He was kneeled behind her, looking over her shoulder to make sure she had the chord right, but she was a few strings off. He reached out after a few frustrating seconds of trying to tell her where to put them and fixed them gently. After a minute, he realized he was still holding her hand and she had turned to look at him and their lips were so close! If only his cell phone hadn’t rang! He still blames Sisky for that. But now he saw it, she definitely liked him. And he smiled, knowing tomorrow he would tell her.

Michael woke up the next morning and he felt a wave of nerves as he remembered his ice skating date with Holly. He sprang up out of bed and ran to the bathroom to shower and quickly did so, making sure he would smell good if he was going to make a move for Holly. He jumped out and dried off quickly, making his way back to his room and deciding on a pair of jeans, and one of his button down shirts. It was light blue and he knew Holly liked it. He pulled on his socks and then a thought struck him. He ran out to the living room where Bill and Mike were watching TV and eating breakfast.
“What’s wrong man?” Bill asked, looking up at his flustered friend.
“I don’t have any ice skates!” He whined.
“I think she’d know that, considering you’ve never been.” Mike said. “Once again, relax. She’s probably taking you somewhere local, and they have rentals. It’ll be fine.” There was a knock at the door and Michael’s nerves skyrocketed.
“Calm down buddy-boy.” William patted his shoulder and went to get the door.
“Hey Bill!” Holly’s cheerful voice rang through the room. “Is Michael ready? Or is he still asleep?”
“Nope, I’m ready!” Michael said, coming to the door.
“Good!” Holly smiled up at him, her eyes sparkling. “We can rent ice skates, at the rink. I figured you’d be worried about that.” She smiled sheepishly and laughed.
“I was.” Michael laughed too. Bill stood awkwardly by the door, smiling at the two of them. “Uhm, let’s go.”
“Kay.” Holly led them out and Bill shut the door behind him and smiled at Mike.
“They’re totally gonna kiss today.” They laughed and called the others to get them over to tell them the story and wait for Michael to come home.
“So, this is it.” Holly said as the pulled into an outside ice skating rink. There were a few families there, kids learning to ice skate from their parents and such. Michael smiled at the seemingly Washington Irving scene and glanced at Holly. She was watching it too, a little smile playing at her lips and he took the time to take in her beauty today. Her just-past shoulder-length dark red hair was pin straight underneath the blue knit beanie cap she wore. Her greenish-blue eyes sparkled in the winter sun, almost like the snow and were lined with a bit of black eyeliner. Her cheeks were a bit pink from the cold and her lips were lightly red and pouty, as they always were. She looked over to him and smiled.
“Let’s go skate!” She chirped, getting out of the car with her skates. Michael got out and she went with him to the rental booth and helped him pick up his skates. “Make sure ya lace em tight!” She laughed, as she tied her own skates on. “I don’t want you getting your foot stuck to the ice!” She giggled and Michael smiled, tying his skates tighter. Holly stood up and he did too. He somewhat teetered, but remained standing. “Oh! That’s a good sign! You have good balance!”
“Thanks.” He laughed.
“Okay, now, let’s get you out to the ice.” She said, leading them over to the edge of the rink. “Now, I know you’re older, but don’t be ashamed to hold onto the side. I still do it.” She smiled at him. “Do you want me to help you?” Michael quickly thought that over and nodded. She smiled and held out her hands after stabilizing herself on the rink. He took them and a shock went through his body and he nervously stepped onto the ice, slipping a little, but remaining up. “Ohmigosh! You didn’t fall! Yay!” She giggled.
“This is weird.” Michael mumbled. “It’s a weird feeling, ya know?”
“Well, everyone feels a bit weird. It’s kinda like gliding on air.” She laughed. “Until you fall. Then it’s like hitting cement.” She started skating backwards, gently pulling him with her, and soon he had the hang of it. “You’re doing really well!”
“Thanks.” Michael smiled.
“Now, I’m going to gently let go.” She warned. “Don’t be afraid to fall. It happens to the best of us, and I promise I’ll make it up to you.” She winked and laughed. Michael took a deep breath as Holly slowly loosened her grip and took her hands away. He missed them instantly. He lost his balance slightly and wobbled, but didn’t fall. He started to skate slowly as Holly watched him while skating backwards. Suddenly he tripped over a small chunk of the ice and fell flat on his butt. Holly skated quickly over to him and stopped by him.
“Well, I think I know this is not air.” Michael smiled up at her.
“Are you okay?” She asked, bending down to help him back up.
“Right as rain.” He smiled at her once he was standing back up.
“You were doing very well, Michael.” Holly said as it started snowing. “You’re a fast learner.”
“Not as fast as you and your guitar.” Michael said. Holly blushed and smiled.
“Okay, let’s keep going.” She laughed and started pulling him around until she felt she should let go again. Within two hours, Michael had only fallen ten times, and Holly three. He was getting very good at ice skating and caught up to Holly, who was in her own little world ahead of him. He caught up to her, but couldn’t stop, and they both ended up in a snow bank. Michael lifted himself up and Holly opened her eyes. Michael realized how close they were and suddenly got nervous.
“Uh, maybe we should go get some hot chocolate or something.” Holly said, in a voice barely above a whisper. Michael agreed and got up, pulling her up too. They slowly skated back to the side of the rink and stepped onto the path. They went back inside the little rental place and changed back into their shoes and Michael gave his skates back. They got into Holly’s car and turned up the heat quickly. She drove back to their apartment building and parked in her spot. “Do you want to come up for a bit? I mean, we didn’t stop anywhere, and I promised you hot chocolate…”
“Yeah, that’d be nice.” Michael smiled and knew that in the next half hour, he’d at least kiss her. They went upstairs and she unlocked her door, while listening to the ruckus down the hall. “Seems like Bill and Mike called the others over.” Holly laughed with him as they entered her apartment. He smiled at the familiar cozy apartment. It was getting dark outside, in the winter tradition. Holly went into the little kitchen and made her and Michael hot chocolate. Michael sat down in front of the couch, resting his back on it. Holly came back into the living room with two steaming mugs. She handed one to Michael and sat down next to him.
“Ohh! Wait!” She said. Michael watched curiously as she grabbed the remote and turned on the TV and a few channel flips later, a fire was crackling. Michael laughed as the room was lit up with the synthetic fire’s glow, the only source of light now in the room. “What?! I like fireplaces, and I can’t have one here, so I got this channel.” She laughed and took a sip of her hot chocolate. “Mmmm! That hits the spot!”
“It’s now or never!” Michael thought. “Uhm, Holly?”
“Hmm?” She looked over at him.
“Well, I just wanted to thank you, for today. Teaching me to ice skate.” He said, taking a deep breath at how gorgeous Holly looked in the orange-red glow of the “fire”. “And I wanted to tell you…”
“Yeah?” She said, inching a bit closer.
“Oh to hell with this!” Michael thought. He took her mug from her and set both of them on the table at the end of the couch and turned back to her, slightly licked his lips, and kissed her. He was a bit surprised when her hands found their way into his hair, pulling him closer. He pulled away and looked at her. She smiled at him.
“I really like you Michael.” She whispered, he hand framing the side of his face. Michael smiled back.
“I really like you too Hollz.” He finally said it! He felt so much lighter now! Holly smiled at him and brought his lips to hers again, starting a two hour long make-out session.

Michael got back to his own apartment later that evening and opened the door to see Mike, Bill, Sisky, and the Butcher on the couch.
“Hi guys!” He said, they all looked at him and sprang up and rushed over to him.
“Dude! Where’ve you been?!” Mike asked. “You were only going skating for a few hours.”
“Well, sit down, and I’ll tell you everything!” Michael said, hanging up his coat. The guys went into the living room and sat down and Michael stood in front of the TV.
“So, tell us!” Sisky urged. “Did you and Holly finally kiss?!” Michael rolled his eyes at how girly his friends could get.
“I’ll tell you the answer to that in a minute.” He said. “We went skating right, and we held hands almost the whole time. After an hour or two, I was starting to really get the hang of it. I skated up and grabbed her, but I was an idiot and couldn’t stop, so I ended up on top of her in a snow bank. I could’ve kissed her, but I chickened out.”
“Aw man.” Butcher said. “Tough break man.”
“That’s not the end of the story.” Michael said. “So she decided we should get some hot chocolate…back at her apartment.” The guys exchanged glances. “Well we were sitting in front of the “fire” she had on the TV screen, and I decided to tell her I like her, well, I couldn’t do it.”
“DUDE!” Mike shouted. “Come on!”
“It’s not over yet!” Michael said. “I couldn’t tell her, so I just kissed her.” The guys clapped and congratulated him. “Well, after I kissed her, she told me she likes me, and I finally told her I liked her, and she kissed me, and well, that’s where I’ve been for the past few hours, making out.”
“Dude!” Bill smiled. “You and Holly are together!”
“Yeah.” Michael smiled to himself. Mike handed around beers to all the guys.
“To Michael and Holly.” He toasted.
“Michael and Holly!” The guys clinked bottles and drank, talking about the recent events. Michael was in love, and he was totally okay with that.
