Burnin' Up
3 ReviewsThe fourth chapter in this series...
"JULIUS! GET UP!! DON'T YOU REMEMBER ANYTHING!?" By now Julius was wide awake. "Okay, Okay, I'm awake now!... D, what are we doing near the infir...Oh, God…”
Delilah slowly stood up when Al pushed open the doors to the infirmary and stepped out into the waiting room.
"Duuuudes..." Delilah and Julius looked up expectantly at him. "Uh.. I dunno how to say this, maan. Uhmm.. Let's just say..." Scarlett walked out of the infirmary, too. "My children.. Zoe's gotten worse. I can't say for sure, but I think this could become quite a problem. If my quick diagnosis is correct, that bite mark on her ankle, is that, of some sort of bug. I can't be sure yet. I'm just running some other diagnostic tests, and a few blood tests. Those should have results in less than 12 hours. For the moment, you should all get some rest. It's been a long day."
"Can we at least go see her??" Julius pleaded. Delilah shared a look with Julius, and she motioned to go to the dormitories. Nosey couldn't pull himself away from the room. Scarlett knew of the bond that had grown between Zoe and him, and let him stay. Delilah and Julius walked down to the stairwell down the hallway. Just as the two were about to go down the stairs, Julius collapsed. He fell down the stairs at a rapid pace. Delilah tried to catch him but was not quick enough. All she could do was watch her friend, her companion, her partner, her love, fall down the many stairs to his near death.
"JULIUS!!!!" She screamed after him. As soon as he stopped rolling, she rushed to his side, and tried to find a pulse; it was very weak. "Julius, Julius!! It's me, Delilah. Wake up, wake up, please!!" As she lightly tapped his cheeks, a stray tear left her own. She looked up, and there, at the top of the stairwell, were Scarlett and Al. The two of them quickly assessed the situation, and went to get a stretcher. "...D?" Julius whispered. "It's okay, Julius. Scarlett and Al are getting help. Just.. Just close your eyes and rest" Those beautiful, crystal-blue eyes...
Her thoughts were interrupted by Al and Scarlett brought a stretcher to the room and lifted Julius' nearly unconscious body onto it, and carried him to the infirmary. Delilah slowly walked back to the infirmary. Nosey was still sitting there, in the waiting room. "Hey.." Nosey looked up for a second, then put his head back between his hands. She could tell he'd been crying. Delilah sat down in the chair beside his. She placed a hand on his back. "Hey.. It's okay. Zoe and Julius are in good hands." Nosey looked back up at her. "I know that, but you don't know what bit them. I do. It's my fault. What bit them, was a Tse-Tse Fly. I brought it back from our last mission in Africa. It was meant to be a specimen, but it must have gotten out of its case, and is now flying around this place. No one is safe. And I don't know how to find it again. It was hard enough the first time." His voice cracked and he lowered his eyes once more. Delilah was still taking this all in, when Al walked back into the waiting room.
"Hey.." Delilah could tell he was worried, too. "Al, Nosey's got something important to tell you..." She turned to him, "Nosey? Come on. Just tell him and get it over with." So Nosey stood up, and told Al the story.

Half an hour later..
outside Al's office
"Okay, kiddos. Thanks for telling me what you know about all this, Nosey. It's like, crucial that I go tell this to Scarlett now. So you two had better get some sleep. Don't forget, Duplicate Delilah is due to report back tomorrow at noon!" He turned to Nosey. "Zoe will be fine, man. She's strong. You know that. And Delilah." He turned to her. "Julius has been through alot. He's strong, too. " He turned to face the both of them. "Now get some sleep. You'll need it. G'night." And with that, he closed his office door, and walked quickly down to the infirmary.
Delilah and Nosey looked at each other, and walked to the meeting point of the corridors that separated their two dormitory areas. "So, uh, good-night?" Nosey said. "Yeah. If you can't sleep, just come to my room. I'll probably be awake.." Delilah replied before she quickly turned and ran to her room.
