Chapter 9
Truthfully it wasn't so bad, Timmy tries to remain optimistic. His parents were happy that he found a good job and the company would actually pay him to be Vicky's assistant. Because of the case they were involved in, Timmy had to be around her anyway, he might as well get paid for it. Plus he got to travel in first class when they left Dimmsdale. His parents were happy to let him go thinking that it would be a great experience.
"Don't forget to focus on your job," Mrs. Turner had reminded Timmy before he left. "Try to save up for college, your father and I will help but it would be great if you could save a little too. Get some good recommendations." She hugged her son, "I'm so proud of you Timmy, don't forget to call every now and then, we love you."
Mr. Turner's goodbye had been a little more relaxed. Though he also expressed his pride on his son and how he was "so young and already climbing the ladders that will reach above the Dinglebergs!"
Chester had also showed up at the airport, AJ sent his regards with Chester but said he rather not be there in person. "Way to go Timmy, sleeping your way to the top," Timmy wasn't sure if Chester's whispered remark was supposed to be a joke or congratulations. He decided it was best not to ask and it was useless to deny it. Luckily it looked like Vicky didn't hear it.
Thus Timmy found himself on an airplane to an unknown destination with his pick and green suitcases in the cargo area. He was told to pack a lot so he assumed he would be away from Dimmsdale for a long time. "Vicky, where are we going?" The company and Vicky handled the paper work, his parents signed a few things and Timmy being eighteen had to sign a few documents himself, but it was all done in a rush and he didn't read anything. He somehow knew when Vicky was up to something and knew she wouldn't mess with his documents and payments.
"Europe," it was the first thing Vicky had said since the plane too off.
"Europe?" Timmy echoed, "I thought it was someplace closer, another state but still in the US."
"I have some business in Europe; England, Spain and France to be specific. I can't say how long we'll be staying at each location but we'll definitely have to visit all three."
At this point Timmy was grinning from ear to ear. Sure he was stuck with Vicky but he had a paying job and he would visit three other countries. Unless they kept him working the entire time and he couldn't go sight seeing. "I'll have some free time to look around, right?"
"I could have you wait in the lobby..." Vicky gave the thought some consideration.
"You don't just take someone to Europe and not let them go sight seeing, that would be too cruel, even for you. Besides, I would sneak away this time."
"I'll make you retreat it," Vicky took the bait a lot easier than Timmy expected.
He grinned, "and I'll won't help with the magic problem."
"I never said I needed any help," as usual Timmy's victories were short lived. "I get the feeling that you have no choice but to deal with all of this. You're far more involved than I am."
"You always have to win, don't you?" Timmy decided not to be too disappointed, nothing had changed to at least it wasn't worse. "But seriously, we'll have some free time, right?"
"If you do a good job running errands I'll give you some time off. Most of the meetings are secret anyway so only the executives are allowed to attend." Vicky was looking forward to the challenge but not to the excessively long meeting. She also seemed annoyed for some reason beyond the entire magic problem, but Timmy couldn't quite figure out why that was.
"Fine," it couldn't be that hard. "What do I have to do anyway?"
"Pretend to look busy, that's what all unneeded assistants do," Vicky replied in a matter of fact tone.
Timmy laughed, "I can do that." He watched Vicky for a long moment, "hey are you okay? You don't sound like yourself..."
"People," was Vicky's simple reply.
"Yeah but..." even with people around Vicky's menacing aura was hidden but present. Now it felt a little tired... "You're tired..."
"Way to go genius," was Vicky's sarcastic reply. "Be quiet, I'm sleeping until we land."
Timmy was amazed at how easily Vicky dozed off. She must be used to airplanes from frequently flying off to business meetings, but even so there was something off. He remembered that he mentioned thinking that her past battles were nightmares involving sleep walking. But if all of them were real then she would have noticed, which meant that some of those fights really were nightmares. She wasn't sleeping well or enough. Inexplicably, Timmy felt angry because it was his seemingly harmless mistake that started this mess, or at least that was what Jorgen thought. If he had any part in this, however small, now was the time when he felt responsible and in a way guilty.
Timmy looked out the window as at the clear blue skies. Vicky had been a living nightmare to him for a long time and there he was feeling sorry that she had to deal with nightmares even if she very well deserved it.
Without warning the airplane shook violently, instantly waking Vicky. "Oh no," Timmy looked out the small window searching for any signs of trouble.
"Relax, it's just turbulence," Vicky flew often and that sort of thing happened all the time, except it was never quite this strong, especially with such clear weather.
Timmy nodded and tried to believe that it was just normal turbulence, then he noticed that the headphones near his seat were not black as they were not long ago, they had changed and where half pink and half green. He put them on.
"He's trying to crash the airplane," Timmy heard though the pink headphone.
"We're all doomed!" The green side cried.
"I wish the airplane doesn't crash and I wish the turbulence would stop," but it didn't. The airplane shook violently until they finally approached land, then suddenly everything was as calm as it should have been all along.
"Magic?" Vicky whispered.
Timmy nodded, "he's following us." He didn't make the airplane crash but he continued to make it shake in mid air for hours after Timmy made his wish. He had the power to nullify fairy magic, and he wanted to remind Timmy, Cosmo and Wanda of that.
