“Wot is dat?” The little lad with bright red hair looked up as a large gate opened, rubbish from the topside pouring down behind a large iron fence.
Reno hadn’t wandered this far from the housing section built of old oil drums, reactor pieces and other rubbish from the topside. He wasn’t all that old at seven but he was pretty used to the streets, hell it kept him away from home. He looked to his friend with a shrug.
“I dunno do I?” The young mousy brown-haired girl two years older had wandered with him. “It looks like where they think they are hiding treasures or sommat.”
“Treasure?” The little redhead looked at it. “We should go take a look.”
“Err you mental?” The kid looked at him. “How?” Reno smiled and walked towards the fence and looked up at it. If he could get something to prop against it he could probably get over the fence with a good jump.
Reno wandered off and came back dragging a plank of wood and set it up and mused over it. His little cheeks screwing up as he thought really hard about the best angle to take the run at. He put his hands on his hips and the young lady laughed. He was grown up acting without really seeing it.
“It’s probably really dirty in there.” She pointed out even though the slums were hardly hygiene central. He took a running jump and caught the edge with his hands and scrambled over.
“Yo if there is like some gold in here or gil you is not having it.” Reno pointed out as he landed the other side. “You not helping means not getting my treasure.” He muttered as he headed along the dump.
“You are going to end up cut or dead.” She said bluntly.
“Missy you is not helping.” He told his friend looking around. He spotted a shining slither amongst the mess and lifted up what looked to be a keychain with a red and yellow logo on it. “This is in Wutai!” He said loudly.
“Come down before a ganger comes past.” Missy hissed at him. “Reno please… come on.”
“What it’s all shiny look!” He hopped back over the fence and sucked it in his mouth to make it cleaner. “Wow neat… it’s got the same logo as the thingy over there.” He pointed to the reactor.
“Then it must be something ShinRa based.” She screwed her face up as he sucked on the dirty object.
“ShinRa?” He looked at her.
“You know the topside they make all the stuff they send down here.” She looked at him. “Your parents not tell you about this stuff?”
“Missy ma dad either drunk or hitting me and me mam either drunk or trying to replace me wid a cat.” He shrugged. “Cats feed emselves ya know? So ShinRa are up there?” He looked up but there was no point to it really.
“Yeah they let you work for them and you get real food.” Missy smiled.
“I gonna work there then.” Reno nodded and headed off back towards the homes.
“How you are like what five?”
“I am so not five. I am seven.” He snorted. Five was kids. “I will you see. Then I will come get you all and then we can have a house up there with windows.”
“Windows?” Missy laughed. “Now I know you are crazy.”
