“H-How’ve you been?” Gerard stammered. Holly never felt the awkwardness.

“I’m good. I’m moving in with my brother.” She elbowed Frankie and laughed. “How’re you?”

“I’m good, I suppose.” There was an awkward silence, and this time Holly felt it. “Um, I’m gonna go get ready.” Gerard awkwardly waved and turned and walked away.

“That was……weird…” Holly stated. “What’s up with him?”

“Uh, Holly, let’s go take a walk.” Frank ushered her outside and they walked around the back of the venue. “Holly, I think the reason Gerard is uncomfortable around you is because you didn’t even tell him you were leaving. You just packed your bags and left.” Frankie explained. “He was hurt bad. I mean, you two were almost engaged, and you up and left us all!”

“I had my reasons Frank.” Holly said, keeping her eyes to the ground. She couldn’t let her brother see the shame.

“What were your reasons?” Frank stopped walking and faced her. She wouldn’t look at him. “Holly, look at me and tell me.”

“I was suffocating here. Newark was toxic to me. I had to go. You don’t understand, you never could. I left so I wouldn’t hurt him.” Holly confided in her older brother, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.

“What won’t I understand?” He asked.

“I loved Gerard, I still do!” Holly told him. “But if he were to find out, he’d kill him. He’d kill my Gee.”

“You guys were great!” Holly shouted over the roaring fans. She jumped on Bob’s back and followed them all to the dressing rooms. He didn’t see Gerard go into any of the dressing rooms. He just kept walking, probably out to the buses.

“Un, I’m going to go find a vending machine, anyone want anything?”

“Yeah, could you get me a Coke Zero?” Mikey asked.

“Sure thing.” Holly smiled and walked out of the dressing rooms, but went to the buses instead. Her alibi would be Frankie asked her for something off the bus. She walked to the one the light was on in and opened the door. She walked inside and was immediately pushed down onto the couch. “What the-.” She shut up when she realized who it was. “Gerard?”

“I missed you.” He whispered. She looked into his eyes and tried to fight the smile, but lost. He brought her lips to his and kissed her. “Why’d you leave?” He whispered again.

“Gerard-“

“Call me what you used to.” He demanded, although gently.

“Gee, I wish I could tell you, but it’s so complicated…”

“I’ve got time.”

“Well first, you’re squishing me.” Gerard didn’t budge from his position, straddling her hips.

“Gerard! What are you doing to my sister?!” Frankie shouted, clambering onto the bus. He grabbed Gerard by the scruff of the neck and pulled him off of Holly.

“Frankie, we weren’t doing anything.” Holly told him. Frank looked skeptical. “I swear Frankie.” He dropped Gerard and Holly helped him back up and straightened his clothes.

“What were you doing then?” Frank asked.

“We were just playing around. I tripped and fell onto the couch and Gerard started tickling me.” Holly lied.

“Fine. Holly, you should go home. We’re gonna leave the venue soon.” Frank told her.

“Okay.” Holly said softly. She hugged Gerard and Frankie walked her to the car. Holly was about to get in the drivers’ side, but Frank stopped her.

“Now what were you and Gerard really doing?” He asked, now quieter. “I know he wasn’t tickling you, or I would’ve heard you laughing.”

“I went to look for him. I wanted to apologize for what I did. I went on the bus, and he pushed me on the couch, told me he missed me, kissed me, and then asked me why I left.”

“Did you tell him?”

“No. You came in before I could.” She said. “I wasn’t gonna anyways.”

“Holly.”

“No, Frank. I’m not gonna tell him.” Her cell phone went off and she checked the text. She screamed and dropped the phone. Frank picked it up, the text was still showing.

“I know.”

“What’s this?” Frankie asked. Holy didn’t answer, she was crying. “It’s him isn’t it?” She nodded. “Okay, that’s it. I’m sick of this guy. You’re going on tour with us. Let’s go get your stuff.” Frank wrenched open the drivers’ door and got in. Holly handed him the keys and they went to the apartment they shared, quickly packing Holly’s things into duffle bags. They threw the duffles into the car and went back to the venue.

“Where’ve you been?!” Bob asked, Frank getting on the bus. Holly followed behind him slowly. “What’s with all the duffles?”

“They’re Holly’s. She’s coming with us.” He grunted, tossing her duffles onto the only empty bunk on the bus. They all locked at each other, and then shrugged. Mikey hugged Holly.

“I’m glad you’re coming on tour with us!” He squealed. “I missed my best friend!”

“I missed you too Mikey.” She hugged him back. “I’m gonna go to bed. I had a really hectic day.”

“Okay. G’night!” She walked to her bunk and put a sheet on it, made up her bed, and went and changed into her pajamas, shorts and a tank top. She exited the bathroom after washing her face and brushing her teeth, and ran straight into Gerard. They stumbled, but remained standing, he grabbed her waist and her hands were resting on his shoulders, and for a moment, it was like old times, before she left. The bus gently jostled them, making a turn and they remembered they weren’t together any longer. Holly moved and walked past Gerard, crawling into her bunk and closing the curtain. She laid her back and gazed at the ceiling.
