Difficulties Are Always With Us
0 ReviewsWe were always together. As in together. Fate separated us one night. And it'll take years again until we see each other again.
We were always together. Us three I mean. No matter where we went through, we stuck up for each other. And then…suddenly…just suddenly, we heard a crash one night when we were little. Lots of shouting and yelling. Cursing even. Jessica was quietly crying in a corner. I woke up because of the noise finding her like that with Kristen trying to hush her up. They were fighting again. Our parents. Kristen covered Jessica’s ears and she cringes every now and then.
“Marielle!” She whispered out loud. “Don’t take a peek!”
I ignored her and opened the door just a little bit. My mom was bleeding on her left hand a lot. Dad was shouting at her. There was a lot of sharp glass on the floor. Mom was shouting back. Then, he spotted me and his rage eyes turned into softness.
“Let’s stop for tonight,” Dad said quietly. I closed the door; my heart was beating fast. I didn’t want him to come in the room and shout at me. But I know he won’t do that. I know he loved me too much.
Kristen:
We fell asleep where we are and mom woke us up saying there was some big news.
“Your dad and I are going to live in different houses for a while,” Mom said when we were in our meeting area (AKA, the sofa)
“Because we can’t afford such big house,” dad stammered covering up the fact that they were splitting up.
“And I got promoted and the job takes place in another country,” Mom added.
“Kristen,” Mom said looking at me. “I’m taking you with me.”
“Jessica you’re going with me and Marielle, you going to live with your grandparents…I know how close you are with them,” Dad said.
Jessica started crying and I started comforting her.
“So, when will take place?” Marielle asked quietly trying not to look at our mom’s bruises and cuts.
“Today,” mom said. “Honey.”
Jessica started sniffing.
“Don’t worry, we promise you when you guys get to high school, we’ll decide on a place for you guys to meet up again,” dad tried to encouraged us, but it’s just another saying that we’ll never meet each other again until that time.
“Don’t worry Jessica,” I said to her. “I’m a phone call away.”
“Actually,” Mom said biting her lips.
“We’re deciding for you guys not to have any kind of communication for now,” dad said.
“WHY!” Marielle asked standing up. “YOU CAN’T SPLIT US UP!”
No matter how brave Marielle is, she was tearing up.
So we went on our separate ways on that afternoon. The atmosphere was really sad and overwhelming. And all we have now is a picture of each of us.
