Possible Problem with RSS Feeds
Are there any currently known issues with the RSS feeds?

I ask as I've noticed recently the main RSS feed for FicWad does not seem to be working for me, this weekend the other feeds can't be read either. I use Sharpreader for my Feed client.

Michelle The Ficwad feeds have never worked for me. I tried once again just now, but Bloglines doesn't recognize the URL as a feed (as example, I used the feed for the LOTR category plus NC17 fics and the example feed given in the Ficwad FAQ - with no success). I like to keep up with fics via RSS, that it's not working with Ficwad is a real shame:(

PCHeintz72 For me, the feeds have almost always worked. And I've been using them practically since the site went on-line.

I have currently some 13 FicWad.COM feeds I had been tracking (the site wide feed, 5 author feeds, and 7 catagory feeds) and until they went down the other week, had been fine. Oh... to be sure, there have been down times, but not often...

I use Hutteman Software SharpReader.

Currently, I get the following error in SharpReader:

Error reading URL: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
Please try to validate this feed. If this feed validates as correct RSS, you can send an error report.

Upon attempting to validate the feed ( www.ficwad.com%2fxml%2frecent.php%3fnc%3d1%26uid%3d26557" rel="nofollow">http://feedvalidator.org/check?url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.ficwad.com%2fxml%2frecent.php%3fnc%3d1%26uid%3d26557 ), I get:

Server returned HTTP Error 404: Not Found

This implies that FicWad.COM uses a separate server for the feeds, and it is either down, or no longer in sync with the site.

As for quirks with the method they support feeds on the site, I've only ever noticed one oddity in the way FicWad handles their creation. If an author or catagory has no stories, FicWad does not actually generate a feed for it. So even though you can make a feed link using the instructions, and go to it on the site, it will read as an error because no feed being present is not the same as a empty feed.

PCHeintz72 I meant to add this.

For the LOTR catagory, the site link should be:

- http://www.ficwad.com/categories.php?catid=66

For the LOTR feed, the feed link depending on options should be:

- http://www.ficwad.com/xml/recent.php?nc=1&catid=66

I should point out that the above feed will not work, since all feeds are down.

Also note, I have the above feed url filtered for xml purposes, that is why instead of '&', it is '&' Not all feed readers need that, but some require it, as does it's presence in an OPML file, if you use one. I've never used what you are, that could be the issue you have.

That same feed without filtering would be:

- http://www.ficwad.com/xml/recent.php?nc=1&catid=66

PCHeintz72 I hate making multiple posts, but I noticed the site itself took out the xml filtering I mentioned.

the '&' in the above feed url with filtering should have been the following without spaces:

& a m p ;

the rest of the line would have been identical with the unfiltered feed url provided above.

Michelle Maybe it was just a disagreement between Ficwad and Bloglines then? I haven't used another feedreader for quite a while now, so I can't compare results. But it'd be great to know when the feeds work again, I'll start a new try then!
