Changes to story upload
You can now enter new characters for a category while uploading a story, and the characters will be added to your story after they are approved and added to the category--there's no need to suggest the characters before uploading your story.

We've also fixed a minor bug that sometimes caused users to be logged out while browsing the site. You should now remain logged in until the browser window is closed.

crimsoncookie There's another very bad bug- I can view the edit profile/story pages for other authors after viewing their profile page. I'm not certain if I can make any changes to them (I hope not!), being not inclined to try, but this likely should be looked into.

Nidoking What about stories that don't feature any characters from the original source? For example, the shudder "My friends and I are Sailor Warriors fighting an enemy I made up based on my math teacher" stories that are more "Sailor Moon" stories than original. Can we leave "Other" in the character field and not specify any characters to be added?

admin Yes, you can do that. If the "Other" box is checked, the upload form will register as complete, even if there aren't any new characters suggested.

Dagmar I already sent in an email about this, but I can't upload a story from my files; whenever I browse for a file on my PC, I get "must upload a text/story first". Which is exactly what I'm trying to do, dangit!

Dagmar Oh, maybe I should add that it'd be the first story in that particular category? (TV Shows, Power Rangers)

akatonbo Perhaps a 'Multiple' or 'Ensemble' entry under Characters would be useful? Ideally, you could either choose it by itself or select a main character and then that as the other selection.

(Of course, I'd like to see more than two character spots available too. Most of what I write is centered on the interaction between two characters, but there are exceptions. I think the most obvious cases where more than two characters are genuinely main characters of the story, and not just in the background, would be stories focused on three people or two pairs.)

BabyCharmander Eheh, I suggested two new categories, but I didn't know the names of all the characters in them, so I left the character space blank. ^^; Is it possible to suggest characters after the category is created?

admin Dagmar: The bug in story uploads has been fixed. Thanks for reporting it!

akatonbo: You can select as many characters as you like when uploading a story--just use the Control key to select them. The purpose of the characters field is to indicate the main characters of a story, but if your fic really does focus on the entire cast, then feel free to choose them all!

BabyCharmander: Yes, characters can be suggested at any time, either by using the category suggest form, or by listing them when you upload a story. Thanks for suggesting new categories!
