spammers
Okay...I feel like such a tattle tale making a topic like this, but I feel the need to put this out there.

Why aren't the mods doing anything about the spammers on this website? They're taking awasy all the attention from the quality stories, and aren't being reveiwed. Isn't there some kind of a system that can be put up that prevents people from posing useless garbage? :| And its apparently all one person...:|
HRT People posting useless garbage is inevitable on any website. Ficwad's rating system is supposed to take care of that problem. When you see bad stories, just rate them down. If you're talking about trolling, report that to the mods.
Rous What are you calling spammers? Writers of really bad fiction? Those who do not bother to spellcheck or grammarcheck? It is possible for the mods to delete stories that are not up to a certain standard. It depends on what they want the site to be. I know that I belong to three sites that have very high standards. Two approve everything written before it is posted. The other one allows posting, but if it is badly written, or goes against site policy, then they yank it. I suppose that some sites must be left pretty much open for anyone to post; how else will they improve?
Ithilwen Where are you noticing the problem, Billy?

HRT is right. If they're awful, rate them down. If they're real stories and the author is just posting a lot of them at once, then I don't think there's any redress. Maybe the author's been around for a long time and is only now posting a large body of work to ficwad.
HRT Many authors are transferring their older stories to Ficwad, so there's going to be a lot of spamming. It does have the advantage of giving you a better idea of the quality of a particular author's work, however. Some weeks ago I suggested creating a way to click the last 15 authors to post in a section, rather than last 15 stories. The idea still has merit.

fairady I think Billy's talking about the people who post notes as fics, promising to put the actual stories up at a much later date. Or the people who just post telling people to read their other fic. Or it could be the people that put rants up disguised as fics. Or even the one person who put up a slew of fics that were just random words and letters. Is that what you mean by the spammers?
Rous If it is the posting of notes instead of chapters, then I agree. ff.net is full of that. It is very sophomoric and childish.

On this subject, I would like to point out the number of people who have used their bio page for either summaries of their posted stories, or actual stories themselves. What do they think the summary section is for? Or the story section? That page is for information about YOU.

As for posting a lot of stories, that could be the case. I have over 150 things I have written. However, I have been slow to post much of anything, and have pulled a couple of stories for various reasons. So, if you are contemplating posting your entire body of work, I would suggest moderation.
BillyShears fairady is right on it, random words and numbers, I'm not bothered about the people putting up alot of stories, its just the stuff people are posting that are a waste of cyber space... does that make any sence? anyway. I'm going to stop whining about it and follow all of your advice, rate it down, and ignore it.
Sonamae I have someone without an account who keeps posting words in all caps that have nothing to do with my story. This person has already posted these about 18 times now and I have asked them to stop. I don't want to disable my reviewers without accounts because of one person. But I think I might have to now.
The person goes by MafiaQueen007 and will not quit.
HRT Unfortunately, this site really needs a way to block abusive reviewers like yours, Sonamae. This is one good idea Ficwad needs to borrow from FF.net.
