Pata-Hikari The biggest problem with the site is utter lack of feedback.

Other sites give me feedback. ^^

(Seriously, two of my stories have only recived one rating and no reviewws, while one has gotten NOTHING)
Ardwynna It's always good to have a backup spot. Some people also have preferred archives to hang out at so you'll be reaching a slightly different audience at each place. I'd already made myself fairly comfortable at ff.net before it started going down the toilet. Keeping track of all the new rules is a hassle but it wouldn't feel right to me to just abandon the users who have me on their alert lists there.

One of my issues with seeking out alternative sites is that sometimes they end up just too heavily geared towards one fandom or another. I tried Skyehawke but the Harry Potter traffic there far outweighs everything else. Since I neither write nor follow the HP fandom, it's really not much use to me. Mediaminer is functional and very active if you get involved in the forums, but design-wise, I find it clunky and generally not pleasing to the eye. Ficwad seems just right, and I've begun experimenting with LJ as well.
ducktheduck I post my stories at several sites, ffn.net being one of them. I also use www.harrypotterfanfiction.com, which is a great place for reviews, and other smaller, ship-centric sites according to the fic I'm posting.

For Harry Potter fanfiction, I'd definitely recommend HPFF as a place to post at.
HRT There is one potential problem with posting to a site like
FF.net, namely the size of the fandom. If you post to Harry
Potter, or Lord of The Rings, the sections are so big, and the
turnover on the latest page is so fast, good stories zip past
and don't get much in the way of reviews. You're on page one
for only a few hours. In the smaller fandoms, you're better
off. But I've done a ton of digging around in LOTR for my
C2, and I keep finding great stories that have barely any
reviews, and I'm afraid very few people have ever read them.
Nobody can wade through the thirty thousand stories in LOTR,
much less the even larger mountain of Harry Potter. If you
want feedback, post on no site larger than medium size.
Exposure on the front page is the only thing that will get any
reaction, if you're serious about reviews. However, it's not
a good idea to post on a site that's miniscule, unless you're
patient and willing to let it grow. Ficwad, fortunately, is
definitely growing. Another important thing, does the site
have a good index system? If readers who might be interested
in your story can find it via characters or story type,
that's very important, too.
